Geneseo Current

Geneseo Current Always free. Always local. Always Geneseo. A media company fueled by what is happening today We are a multi‐media company that covers everything Geneseo.

What began in 2020 as an idea has grown into a modern news source with traditional values. Reminiscing about our own childhoods, we remember how we couldn’t wait to pick up a newspaper and see our photo from the little league ball game. It was a thrill to be recognized and highlighted in the community, and we have already begun to reignite that excitement. From the start of our company, we wante

d to guarantee free local media coverage of hometown events, special features, exclusive video series, and community‐focused articles. While we got started on social media during the pandemic, we have always planned to utilize a website and different media formats ranging from graphics, videos, and photography. Geneseo Current was founded by Dalcon DeMaranville, Art Neuleib, Garrett Newman, and Jim VanOpdorp. We have so many projects in the pipeline to make the Geneseo Current a unique and exciting experience for all who love Geneseo.

Don’t Be That Neighbor This 4th of July

As Independence Day approaches, the Geneseo Police Department reminds residents to celebrate safely, respectfully, and in accordance with state and local laws.

Listen, we love a good celebration as much as anyone but let’s keep it legal, safe, and neighbor-friendly.

First things first:
Just because a fireworks tent sold it to you doesn’t mean it’s legal to light it in Illinois.

Yes, we know the tents are here.

Two tent vendors are currently operating within the City of Geneseo. While the sale of certain fireworks may be legal, not all items sold are legal to use in the State of Illinois.
Confusing? A little.

Residents are urged to use caution, ask questions, and only purchase fireworks that can be legally and safely discharged. If it whistles, launches, or sounds like a small cannon, yeah, that’s probably a no-go.

Risking a citation or burning down a fence? Not worth it. Ask before you blast.

Please be kind:
Not everyone enjoys backyard explosions at midnight, especially pets, babies, and veterans dealing with PTSD.

If Sparky is hiding in the bathtub or your neighbor’s lights are all off... maybe don’t fire up the grand finale just yet.

Please be mindful of the time, location, and impact of your celebrations.

Your safety checklist:
✔ Water hose or bucket?
✔ No kids lighting fireworks alone?
✔ Eyes on your own fingers?

We want everyone to have a fun, safe, Fourth. Let’s celebrate Geneseo-style with good times, respect for each other, and all ten fingers intact.
