The world’s largest wildlife overpass will soon be open for use in Colorado.

This new overpass is being constructed over a section of I-25 between Denver and Colorado Springs, just north of Monument. Some 80,000 drivers pass through this area daily. But elk, mule deer, and pronghorn also use that area to move between the mountains and the plains.

In The NoCo discussed how this overpass could help reduce these dangerous and costly crashes: https://buff.ly/VUbCvT3

Colorado officials denounced an EPA proposal to scrap a major solar funding program, threatening $156 million in funding for renewable energy in Colorado.

The Solar For All program is a $7 billion clean energy initiative authorized by Congress as part of the Inflation Reduction Act in 2022. However, the Trump administration signaled its intention to terminate the program last week.

Rumblings of unease about a massive new reservoir project in Northern Colorado are growing louder. The Fort Collins-Loveland Water District, which is currently the largest shareholder in the Northern Integrated Supply Project, is raising major concerns about the project’s future and looking to sell off some of its rights to store water in the new reservoir system.

Colorado teachers say their students are missing something that helps determine their academic success. They call it grit.

Erica Breunlin covers education for The Colorado Sun. Since the pandemic, she says teachers have told her they’re seeing less of this core life skill in the classroom – and that’s leading to lower test scores for K-12 students.

In the past two decades, Colorado and other Mountain West states have seen the steepest drops in fertility rates nationwide.

Women in Wyoming, for instance, are having about 25% fewer babies. In Utah, they’re having more than 35% less.

Contraception is a routine part of life for many Americans and polls show people across political parties agree that it should be legal and accessible.

But the Trump administration is walking back access to birth control for some people — including withholding funding from a Nixon-era program that guarantees access to contraception for low income people.

Birth control is routine for many Americans and polls show it's popular across party lines. Now, the Trump administration is withholding funds that provide contraception for low income people.

Lawmakers will return to the Capitol on Aug. 21 mainly to deal with the effects of the 'One Big, Beautiful Bill Act,' congressional Republicans’ federal tax and spending measure. They’ll also debate what to do about Colorado’s first-in-the-nation law, which is set to take effect in February.

The consumption of ultra-processed foods is on a slow decline, though most Americans — and especially children — are getting most of their calories from unhealthy, manufactured foods, according to new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

But there is no standard definition of what constitutes an ultra-processed food, though they are generally energy rich foods with little nutritional value, containing added fats, sugars and chemicals to preserve their shelf life and make them very palatable. In short, they are manufactured to be cheap, convenient and tasty.

Americans get about 55% of our calories from tasty, cheap — and unhealthy — manufactured foods, the latest data from CDC says. For kids, the percentage is even higher.

A part of President Jimmy Carter’s legacy is his environmental record focused on energy-efficient developments. In Colorado, this included experimental solar-powered homes along the Front Range, inspiring John Avenson to build his own in Westminster in 1981. Avenson still lives there today, and the home is featured in the PBS series Heart of a Building.

Colorado is known as a very dog-friendly state. A recent study by Colorado State University noted that if you’re a pet owner in this state, there’s an 80 percent chance that pet is a dog.

Colorado is also known for being one of the first states to legalize cannabis. But the high number of dog lovers plus the state’s long history of legal w**d appear to have created a growing trend that worries veterinarians.
