You can play the exact same song two different ways and get two completely different reactions.

Start "Man! I Feel Like a Woman" on the verse and it's fine. People recognize it a few seconds in, and a few of them wander over.

Start it on the horns instead, and the second "let's go girls" hits, grandma and the sorority sisters are looking at each other from across the room and reporting to the dance floor together.

That's the OH moment. It's the half second where everybody recognizes the song at the same time and the room moves as one, and it's the whole reason I'm picky about where I come in on a track.

Same song. The difference is the DJ.

If you're interviewing DJs for your wedding, ask them how they think about transitions. You'll learn a lot from the answer.

If you're getting married outside, this is the part nobody warns you about.

Indoors, the walls bounce your voice back into your guests' ears. Outside there's nothing to bounce off of, so unless someone is mic'd up, half the room is watching you say your vows and hearing none of it.

Here's how I handle it. Your officiant gets a little clip-on mic. One of you gets one too, usually the groom. And I leave that mic turned down until the moment you start your vows, so you can use the restroom, say something you didn't mean for 150 people to hear, whatever you need. Then I bring it up, you say your vows to each other, and I bring it right back down.

You spent real time writing those. People should get to hear the punchlines.
