The National Hurricane Center continues to monitor a disturbance that could move into the northwestern Gulf later this week. While there remains a medium chance for tropical development, the greatest threat from this system is expected to be heavy rainfall and flooding rather than wind.

Periods of intense rainfall are forecast across portions of Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi over the next several days. This rainfall could lead to widespread flash flooding, urban flooding, and river flooding, some of which may become life-threatening.

Residents in flood-prone areas should closely monitor forecasts and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions. Regardless of whether a tropical storm forms, significant rainfall impacts are becoming increasingly likely.

When it comes to this system, flooding is the main concern.

Flood Update: Greens Bayou in Northeast Houston has risen above flood stage and continues to climb. This footage was taken at I-59 North near Beltway 8.

As of the latest reading, the bayou is at 55.27 feet, exceeding the flood stage threshold of 55 feet. Forecasts indicate water levels are expected to crest soon, however more rain is expected, which could lead to additional flooding concerns in low-lying areas near the bayou.

Residents in flood-prone locations should stay alert, monitor conditions, and be prepared for rapidly changing water levels.

UPDATE: Authorities have confirmed that American singer, comedian, and internet personality Oliver Tree was among the six people killed in Sunday’s tragic helicopter collision over Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

According to investigators, two helicopters collided midair over the city’s western zone before crashing to the ground. One of the aircraft crashed into a parking area, igniting several vehicles and prompting a large emergency response.

All six people aboard the two helicopters lost their lives. Officials continue to investigate the cause of the collision.

Oliver Tree, known for his distinctive style and hit songs including “Life Goes On” and “Miss You,” gained a global following through his music, comedy, and online content.

I’ve added some pictures from the last 2 times he played in Houston. ❤️😔

The growing trend of social media-organized “teen takeovers” reached downtown Houston Saturday night when an estimated 500 to 600 teens and adults gathered at Discovery Green.

Houston police say multiple shots were fired during crowd dispersal efforts. No injuries were reported, but one juvenile and one adult were detained and allegedly found with fi****ms.

HPD says a large police response helped prevent the crowd from moving toward the nearby FIFA Fan Fest.

What are your thoughts on these large gatherings becoming more common in major cities?
