🚨 Shooting at Briarwood under investigation by JPD 🚨

Another shooting at the Briarwood Apartments resulted in an injury, and an investigation is continuing to locate the shooter.
The Jesup Police Department (JPD) responded to the Wednesday (Dec. 10) shooting and rendered immediate assistance to the victim.
The victim was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital and then airlifted to Memorial Medical Center’s Trauma One facility for further treatment, according to the report from the JPD Wednesday.
No further information on the condition or identity of the victim is available at this time.
This is the second shooting at Briarwood in the past two weeks. Andrew Plummer was killed in a Nov. 28 shooting at the South First Street apartment complex. The Jesup City Council approved a resolution Monday demanding that the corporate owner of the complex address the continuing problems there. (See the Dec. 11 issue of The Press-Sentinel for the story on the city’s action.)
The police reported that the victim in the Wednesday shooting was found with a gunshot wound to the torso in the area of the C-building breezeway.
Officers reviewed surveillance footage and were able to identify persons in the vicinity of the shooting, but no information is available on the shooter.
The report says that the JPD is following up on all leads.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the JPD at (912) 427-1300 and speak to investigator Rhett Burford or Sgt. Michael Sutton.

Two drivers die in
head-on collision
on Lanes Bridge Road

Andy Jack Brannen, 75, and Sean Avery Vance, 23, both of Jesup, died in a head-on collision on Lanes Bridge Road (Ga. Hwy. 169) Thursday.
Brannen, driver of a southbound Chevrolet Colorado, failed to maintain his lane of travel and struck the northbound Chevrolet Malibu driven by Vance head-on, the Georgia State Patrol preliminary report on the crash said.
Both drivers died as a result of their injuries in the crash, the report said.
The crash occurred at 4:26 p.m. near Rainbow Drive on the highway near the county maintenance shop. Traffic was closed at the Spring Grove Road intersection for more than an hour.
The incident is still under investigation by the Troop I Georgia State Patrol office.

Mother and child struck
in crosswalk on Cherry Street

A mother and child were struck by a vehicle on Cherry Street Thursday night and were transported by Wayne County EMS medical care.
The two were treated and released following the incident. No further reports on their condition have been received.
The two were in the crosswalk on Cherry Street when struck by a red Chevrolet Trax, whose driver is suspected of DUI, according to an announcement from the city of Jesup.
The incident occurred at about 5:45 p.m., just before the Jesup Christmas Tree Lighting event in the park at the corner of Cherry and West Broad streets.
The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the incident.
The announcement Thursday night from the city of Jesup expressed sympathy to the family and thanks to first responders who assisted the victims.

Downtown Jesup Christmas
Parade postponed by weather

The Downtown Jesup Christmas Parade has been postponed to Dec. 12 at 7 p.m.
The parade was originally scheduled for this Friday (Dec. 5).
Kara Lopez, the downtown development and city innovation director, attributed the “difficult” decision by the city to a projected rain forecast.
She said city officials had reviewed several news outlets and discussed the forecast with Wayne County Emergency Management Director Donnie Ray before making the decision.
“We’ve monitored the weather closely and want to ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for everyone who comes out to celebrate with us,” Lopez said.
She added, “Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to seeing you next Friday as we bring the holiday magic to downtown Jesup!”
The decision does not affect downtown tree-lighting plans for Thursday night, and the new Jesup parade time will not conflict with Screven holiday activities, which are scheduled for Dec. 13.
The rescheduled Jesup parade will supersede much of what had been planned for a Christmas Downtown shopping event that evening.
