What if the legendary demigod Maui had a connection to Oʻahu’s west side? 🌺🌊
One Hawaiian legend connects Maui to the Waiʻanae Coast and tells of his younger sisters, Lualualei and Nanakuʻulei — a name said to have evolved over generations into Nānākuli.
Whether you’ve heard this story before or not, it’s another reminder that Hawaiʻi is so much more than beautiful beaches. Every valley, mountain, and coastline has a story. 🌴✨

Windows down, island breeze, sunshine, and apparently the whole family enjoying the ride. 😂🌊

If you grew up in Hawaiʻi, you already know… rice goes with EVERYTHING. 😂
Pork & beans? Add rice.
SPAM® & eggs? Rice.
Mac salad? Of course, rice.
Chicken noodle soup? Yep… rice too!
Tuna, kim chee, bagoong? You already know. 🍚🤙
It might look a little unusual to visitors, but in Hawaiʻi, a scoop (or two!) of rice just makes the meal complete. 🌴❤️

A few simple swaps can make a BIG difference — safer beaches, fewer crowds, better local food, and way less time sitting in traffic. 🌴🌊
Oʻahu is so much better when you plan by area, know your beach conditions, and have a backup plan for popular spots.

Not every beautiful beach on Oʻahu needs a location tag. 🌊🌴
This North Shore spot has the kind of coastline that looks like a postcard, sea turtles are frequent visitors, and if you're lucky, you may even spot a Hawaiian monk seal. 🐢🤍
📸 Wildlife close-ups in this Reel were taken using extreme zoom. Please always give turtles and monk seals plenty of space and admire them respectfully from a distance.
As for the exact beach? 🤫 I’m saving a few of my favorite spots for my upcoming Oʻahu Beach Guide.

Add Laniakea Beach — also known as Turtle Beach — to your North Shore day! 🌴 Honu can sometimes be spotted swimming near shore or resting on the beach.
✨ Go early — parking is limited.
🐢 Sightings are never guaranteed.
🌺 Always give wildlife plenty of space and never touch or disturb them.
