Pools are normally a welcome sight this time of year, except when they are holding up traffic on the Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge.

According to the Virginia State Police, on Friday, June 5, at approximately 9:17 a.m. troopers responded to a crash on the bridge involving a pick-up truck transporting a pool from the White Stone side.

The excitement was palpable as guests and competing artists waited to hear the winners announced in the 2026 Art In Transit competition at a reception Friday, May 29, at the RAL Art Center, 19 North Main Street, Kilmarnock.

The fundraiser is a cooperative effort of Bay Aging and the RAL, said Juli Schuszler. By collecting entry fees and enlisting sponsors, the two organizations raise funds for the prizes awarded and their respective programs. With their share of the funds, Bay Transit awards college scholarships to its bus drivers or their family members.
