"Shaundel Washington-Spivey is a University of Wisconsin-La Crosse alumni and community leader who is currently running for mayor of La Crosse."

"Washington-Spivey graduated from UWL in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in political science and then later a master’s degree in student affairs administration making him a two-time alumnus of UWL. He also studied at Western Technical College and Viterbo University."

"On Wednesday Feb. 5, Eagle Advocates, a club at University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, held its fourth annual Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) night. The event was held concurrently with UWL’s women’s basketball team as they battled University of Wisconsin-Platteville in their ninth conference game."

"Eagle Advocates was founded in 2020 after the murder of George Floyd. The protests surrounding the event inspired athletes to make a club targeting racial equity in athletics. Eagle Advocates is an exclusive group for student-athletes dedicated to raising awareness and fostering a sense of community around DEI discussions."

"Now, nearly four months after the UW System Board of Regents unanimously voted to revoke his tenure, Gow has filed a federal lawsuit against the UW System alleging his dismissal was unconstitutional and violated both his free speech rights and the systems’s own stated commitment to academic freedom."

“'The First Amendment protects Dr. Gow’s speech, even if it may be unpopular or contrary to the majority of public sentiment,' the lawsuit stated. “Indeed, the First Amendment is most important when the danger of stifling controversial speech is at its highest.'”

“‘We respect that many people do not wish to view sexually explicit material so we were clearly disappointed to see that the prosecution in this case has entered into evidence sexually explicit images from our videos,’” said Gow.

“Gow strongly criticized the prosecution’s case, even accusing the UW System of placing falsehoods in the investigative report. The report talks at length about how computers returned to UWL from Gow had information deleted from them, Gow countered by stating the computers were ‘seized’ from his office.”

"Sounds of United States Navy aircrafts were heard by over 10,000 people who visited The Deke Slayton Airfest in La Crosse this past weekend. The Airfest was hosted at La Crosse’s regional airport on French Island June 15-16, but local La Crosse residents could see and hear the Blue Angels practicing all week long in preparation for the show."
