On Sunday, we celebrated and we are proud to feature a 2025 publication from the Wildlife Pharmaceuticals team: “Butorphanol–azaperone–medetomidine and ketamine–butorphanol–azaperone–medetomidine chemical immobilisation in habituated subadult female giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis).”

This study presents practical immobilisation protocols for habituated subadult female giraffe, offering valuable insights to enhance safety, monitoring, and animal welfare during veterinary and conservation interventions.

Safe immobilisation of these extraordinary animals remains one of the greatest challenges in wildlife veterinary medicine, and evidence-based research like this remains essential in supporting veterinarians and wildlife professionals in the field.
