It was so nice talking with Elliot Nathan today, founder and president of the Sioux Falls Stroll Club!

Elliot started the Stroll Club as a way for dads to connect, build friendships, support one another and, most importantly, spend quality time making memories with their kids. What started with just a couple of dads and their children has grown into an awesome community in Sioux Falls.

Elliot and I had such a great conversation that we already decided we’re going to do something together again in the future! So stay tuned. 💜

Check out our live conversation below!

Everyone say hello to Elliot Nathan!

Elliot is going to be joining me LIVE right here on the Sarah does page today, September 11th, at 11:15 a.m. MDT.

Elliot lives in Sioux Falls, but he’s originally from Minneapolis. He went to the University of Oregon, spent some time in New York City working for Major League Baseball, and eventually made his way to South Dakota in 2012 to work for KELO-TV. He’s been in Sioux Falls ever since and now works full-time in marketing and social media.

But one of the things I really want to talk to him about today is the Sioux Falls Stroll Club.

Elliot started the group because he felt like dads needed more opportunities to connect with other dads. Parenting is wonderful, but it can also be exhausting, isolating and just plain hard sometimes. He wanted dads to have a place to meet other dads, bring their kids, make friends and have a community around them.

He started with two members last year. Now there are more than 225 dads!

The Stroll Club is actually South Dakota’s first and only nonprofit focused specifically on fatherhood. They do walks, dads and kids events, nights out and other things that simply get dads together and help them feel more connected.

Elliot is also a husband to Brittney and dad to two little boys, Beckett, 6, and Hayes, 3.

We’re going to talk about all of this today, how the Stroll Club got started, what they’ve got going on in Sioux Falls and maybe even what expanding something like this into the Black Hills could look like.

Come hang out with us at 11 a.m. MDT today! I think it’s going to be a really good conversation. 😍

And if you have a business, organization, event, story or something cool you’re doing and you’d like to be featured on my platforms, reach out to me!

Some places you visit. Other places you feel. 🇺🇸

Standing at the 9/11 Memorial was something I don’t really know how to put into words. It was peaceful and quiet, but at the same time there was such a strong energy there. I found myself just standing still, taking it all in and thinking about the lives lost and the families whose worlds changed forever that day.

And then there was this beautiful beam of light shining down over the memorial. Maybe it was simply the sun, but in that moment, it felt like something more ~ a reminder that even after unimaginable darkness, light can still find its way through.

Today we remember the 2,977 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and all those who were forever changed by that day.

Have you ever stopped to explore the ponds at Canyon Lake Park in Rapid City?

These peaceful little ponds and waterways are tucked throughout the park along Rapid Creek, surrounded by trees, walking paths, bridges and beautiful stonework. But like so many places around the Black Hills, there’s a lot more history here than you might realize.

Canyon Lake dates back to the late 1800s, with the first dam built in 1890. After that dam was washed out in a 1907 flood, the lake remained dry for years. In the 1930s, Depression-era public works projects helped rebuild and improve the Canyon Lake area, turning it into the recreational space generations of people have enjoyed.

Then came the devastating Black Hills Flood of 1972. Canyon Lake Dam was breached during the flood, and the park and surrounding area were heavily damaged. In the years that followed, Canyon Lake and the park were rebuilt, with a redesigned spillway and improvements intended to better handle future flooding.

Today, it’s hard to imagine so much history while walking beside these calm little ponds. They’re now a beautiful place to walk, watch wildlife, fish, slow down and enjoy a quieter piece of Rapid City.

Just another reminder that sometimes the places we pass by every day have some of the most interesting stories. 💜

Seven people showed up tonight for my first Hustle & Flow Yoga class at the Deadwood Recreation Center. 🧘‍♀️

And it was exactly what I needed for my soul.

Thank you to every single one of you who came, moved, breathed, slowed down, and shared that space with me tonight. I hope it was exactly what your soul needed, too. 💜
