During a Select Board meeting at the beginning of last month, the Select Board discussed the Battle Green Use Policy, specifically regarding protests in front of the Minuteman Statue. Members of the Lexington Police voiced concerns given the planned changed to pedestrian and car traffic as part of the Battle Green Streetscape Project and asked the Select Board to reconsider the policy.

Doug Lucente stressed that this request was not an attempt to supress speech or ban protesting but instead a call to consider the safety of residents and visitors in a high traffic area. To conclude the discussion, a small working group was formed to gather public opinion before rewriting any rules.
