They just changed the rules so your dog can sit with you.
Italy’s aviation authority has approved new guidelines that let even medium and large dogs travel in the cabin. Before this, most pets over about 8 to 10 kilos had to ride in the hold. Now they can be secured on a seat or placed in an approved carrier in the cabin.
This is about welfare and choice. Many owners avoid flying because of the hold. Keeping dogs close can cut stress and make trips safer.
There are conditions. Airlines must opt in and set procedures. Seats and carriers have to meet safety rules. Aisles and exits must stay clear. On some routes and planes it may not be possible. But the door is open in a way it wasn’t before.
First flights under the new rules are already being planned in Italy. Policies will roll out airline by airline, with weight and seating limits that fit each cabin.
For families with big dogs, this is real progress. More trips together. Less worry. And a travel system that treats pets like the loved ones they are.
