Burbs Explored is a curated guide on where to eat, drink, live, and play in the Chicago suburbs. Our focus is on quality recommendations, highly curated content, and being a useful resource for people who enjoy eating, drinking, and living well in the suburbs.
✉️ We offer a free weekly newsletter, where we share a curated list of upcoming events, along with restaurant guides, news and updates from our favorite local places, interviews with local tastemakers, exclusive promotions, and more.
⭐ Our website is designed to be a go-to resource where you can easily find all of our recommendations, easily sorted by North Shore, Northwest Suburbs, and Western Suburbs (South suburbs coming soon), along with our curated events calendar, interviews, and more.
👋🏻 We were founded by Joe Arendt, who was born and raised in the Chicago suburbs. Post college he lived in the city for over a decade, before returning to the burbs in 2021 to raise his family. He has worked in digital media his entire career and helped grow popular brands like Eater, Curbed and Inman. After several years of wishing the suburbs had a better resource for discovering the best places and things to do (that are not in the city), he launched Burbs Explored as an attempt to change that.
❤️ Our goal is to help people love where they live, connect with their community, and support the many amazing local businesses across the Chicago suburbs.
