Barriers emerged in 2024, born from the collective experience and shared vision of four
seasoned musicians deeply rooted in Australia's metal and hardcore scenes.

While a new name, the band brings a wealth of history and intensity to the table, with members
having performed nationally and internationally across a variety of heavy projects.

- Ben Loy (Day Of Contempt, ex-CryMurder)
- Stacey Loy (ex-CryMurder)
- Liam Okninski (ex-CryMurder, ex-Truth Corroded)

Their shared pedigree in the scene ensures Barriers are anything but inexperienced. With a sound that blends the crushing weight of modern metal with the atmosphere and depth of post-metal, Barriers have drawn comparisons to Gojira, Fit For An Autopsy, and Conjurer, with layered influences from Cult of Luna and Baroness.

In August 2025, Barriers dropped their debut EP, a bold and immersive statement that has since received airplay on Triple J's Short.Fast.Loud, Triple J Unearthed, and coverage across various metal media platforms. In May 2026, their latest single, Bloodbound, was released alongside their debut music video.

Despite being a new entity, Barriers have already made a strong impact live. Notably, they performed to a sold-out crowd at the Lion Arts Centre in Adelaide, supporting Australian heavyweights I Killed The Prom Queen.
With several live shows being played across Melbourne and Adelaide, they are soon to play Brisbane's Necrosonic Festival in August.

At Brutal Assault Festival 2026, Görkem Metalinspire sat down with Robert Vigna and Alex Bouks of IMMOLATION for a conversation about the band's new album Descent, touring, songwriting and what lies ahead.

Released in April 2026, Descent marks another chapter in IMMOLATION's long-running journey through dark, atmospheric and uncompromising death metal. During the interview, Robert and Alex talk about the new record, the writing process, playing the new songs live and the plans for the band in the coming months.

They also discuss touring, the current IMMOLATION lineup and the band's approach to keeping their sound evolving while staying true to what has always made IMMOLATION different.

Recorded at Brutal Assault Festival 2026, this is a conversation with two of the guitarists behind one of death metal's most distinctive sounds.
