Juneteenth marks the day enslaved people in Galveston, Texas finally learned they were free—a full year after the Emancipation Proclamation.

The theology of Juneteenth echoes the Beatitudes: freedom that touches every living thing. Justice that extends across borders. A harvest that includes everyone.
