A Heidelberg woman shot and killed one of the escaped Jasper County monkeys, saying she feared for her children’s safety after the animals fled a highway crash last week.

Jessica Bond Ferguson of Heidelberg said her son, 16, spotted the animal in their yard, prompting her to grab her firearm and phone before stepping outside.
