Officer Involved Shooting in Stockton
Per San Joaquin County Sheriff:
Shortly after 12:30 a.m. on September 10, 2026, San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop near South Tuxedo Avenue and North Pershing Avenue in Stockton. The driver, 27-year-old Julio Llerenas, failed to yield, leading deputies on a vehicle pursuit.
The pursuit continued to the southbound Interstate 5 on-ramp at March Lane, where deputies attempted to stop the vehicle.
During the incident, the suspect vehicle was used in an apparent attempt to assault a deputy, resulting in a deputy-involved shooting.
Llerenas continued to flee and was later apprehended near Melbourne Avenue and Acacia Street. No deputies or suspects were injured, and Llerenas is in custody.
Llerenas was booked on charges of assault with a deadly weapon other than a fi***rm on a peace officer/firefighter causing or likely to cause great bodily injury (PC 245(c)), felony committed while on felony probation (PC 12022.1(f)), evading a peace officer with wanton disregard for safety (VC 2800.2(a)), and obstructing/resisting an executive officer (PC 69). His bail was set at $140,000.
There is no ongoing threat to the community.
The California Highway Patrol will be investigating the deputy-involved shooting. This remains an active and ongoing investigation, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
