CHP Stops Unsafe Tractor Trailer Operating Without a Valid License

Per CHP:

“Recently, one of our CHP Commercial Officers conducted a traffic stop on a tractor-trailer combination vehicle for numerous California Vehicle Code violations. During the stop, it was discovered the driver was operating the commercial vehicle without a valid driver license. Due to the violations and unsafe operation, the vehicle was impounded.

Commercial vehicles play a critical role on our roadways, but safety and compliance are not optional.

Proper licensing, equipment maintenance, and following traffic laws help keep everyone safe.🚛 “

SCAM ALERT 🚨 Woman Scammed Out of $5,000

Beware, there is a scam occurring in the 209 involving someone pretending to be with local government agencies. In one case reported to 209 Times, a woman was called by an unknown number when her sister was arrested and held at the San Joaquin County jail in French Camp. The caller told her that she could get her sister out of jail, but needed to provide $5,000 for bail. The caller texted the intended target again the next morning, identifying themselves as Lt. Karter.

We confirmed with San Joaquin County Sheriff Pat Withrow that there is no Lt Karter in their department. “We will never call anyone asking for money or dealing with bail. That is completely separate from my office. No government agency will make such a call. If anyone is suspicious or believes they have been targeted by this scam, please report it to my office,” said Sheriff Withrow.

Upon our investigation, the Sheriff launched his own and discovered that there was another elderly woman who was scammed out of $5,000 recently by a person identifying themselves being from another San Joaquin County government agency.

Stay vigilant 209. Don’t get scammed.

Police Investigating Triple H*micide In Modesto

***Warning: Viewer Discretion Is Advised***

Per Modesto Police:

“Shortly after 9:20 a.m., officers with the Modesto Police Department responded to the 1600 block of Monterey Avenue regarding a reported disturbance. Upon arrival, officers located an adult female, approximately 23 years old, suffering from multiple st*b wounds. She was pronounced d*ceased at the scene.

As officers continued searching the residence, they located a second adult female, approximately 54 years old, and an inf*nt ch*ld, both suffering from apparent st*b wounds. The adult female was pronounced d*ceased at the scene. The inf*nt was transported to a local hospital, where the ch*ld was later pronounced d*ceased.

An additional ch*ld approximately 4 y*ars old, was located inside the residence and transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation and clearance.

During the initial response, officers quickly established a perimeter after information gathered at the scene led investigators to believe the suspect remained in the area. The Modesto Police Department’s Hostage Negotiation Team, SWAT, and Investigations Division responded to assist.

As a precaution, Orville Wright Elementary School was placed on lockdown. Due to the anticipated duration of the law enforcement activity, Modesto City Schools coordinated the precautionary relocation of students and staff to La Loma Junior High School. St*dents and staff were safely transported, and reunification efforts were successfully completed. Modesto City Schools provided updates to parents throughout the incident, and the Modesto Police Department worked closely with school officials to help ensure the safety of all involved.

The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Joaquin Escoto, was later located hiding inside a nearby residence and taken into custody without incident. Investigators believe the suspect shared a ch*ld with one of the v*ctims.” 😢

Our condolences go out to their family and friends. 😢

New Medical School Coming to Stockton 🏫 🧑‍⚕️

Today, the University of the Pacific officially announced plans to open a School of Medicine in Stockton with doors expected to open in 2030.

This is a historic first for the port city. California’s first M.D.-granting institution outside of Southern California, the Bay Area, and Sacramento will be in Stockton.

The new school will help address the physician shortage our region is facing by training more doctors locally, while also bringing new jobs and long-term economic investment to our community according to an announcement by the City of Stockton.

A big development for Stockton and the 209. 🏥
