TROPICAL UPDATE 5AM WEDNESDAY:

Gabrielle is a Category 3 still but remains out to sea. Hurricane warnings are in effect for the Azores, and the remnants of the storm could impact Portugal and Spain.

In other parts of the Atlantic, the National Hurricane Center is monitoring two additional areas: Invest 93L and Invest 94L.

The 93L is likely to develop into a tropical storm first. The next name is Humberto, with a chance of development at 80% in the next 48 hours. Thankfully, this is likely to stay out of the sea, but the track will be slightly more west of Gabrielle's movement. Bermuda will have to monitor this closely for Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.

The threat of development has continued to grow for Invest-94L, which will bring wind and rain to Puerto Rico today and the Dominican Republic tonight. This area is also likely to become at least a tropical storm and therefore be named. If this is named after Invest 93L, then this will be Imelda.

Development will be slow, with the European indicating a tropical storm possible into the weekend, and this could track very close to the Carolinas on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.

The GFS has Invest-94L and Invest-93L merging in the Atlantic and then moving out to sea. Unfortunately, the forecast is very uncertain, but right now our threat to the coast is not zero.

missed a direct hit to Bermuda. It is still a powerful Cat 4, but no land is threatened by this system, so let's turn our attention to other parts of the Atlantic.

There are two additional areas of interest. The westernmost area has a 50% chance of developing in the next seven days. This area in orange could get close to the U.S., but whether it is a named storm or just brings some much-needed rain is still to be determined.

The area in the central tropical Atlantic looks to be the next storm to watch, with the chance of development at 80%. The trend is out to sea, just slightly more west of Gabrielle's track. The next names are Humberto and Imelda.

is now a hurricane and is expected to be a major hurricane later today. Winds are currently sustained at 90 mph and moving north-northwest at 10 mph.

Gabrielle continues to pose no threat to the United States and will miss a direct hit with Bermuda, but it will continue to strengthen throughout the day and is forecast to be a major, Category 3 with winds of 120 mph.
