Their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to freedom will never be forgotten. Memorial Day is not only a time of remembrance, but also a reminder of the tremendous cost of the liberties we enjoy every day.

A message from the publisher - Reg Buxton.

Mosquito Control Board Committed to Protecting Public Health and Comfort

Earlier this year, I had the pleasure of being elected as Chairman of the Collier Mosquito Control District Board of Commissioners. It is a role I take seriously, as mosquito control is a vital service that makes our growing community one of the best places in the country to live and visit.

As a Commissioner, I am tasked with approving the District’s annual budget and providing support to its team of dedicated professionals to meet the mission of suppression of disease carrying and nuisance mosquitoes through the safest and most economical means available.

Mosquito control in Naples has evolved dramatically over the decades. While airplanes and helicopters are often the most visible portion of the District’s integrated approach, they are far from the only tool in our toolbox. As mosquito populations grow in the spring and summer, field technicians monitor areas of the city that are prone to breeding. In some of these areas, we can proactively go after mosquitoes in their larval stage, preventing them from ever becoming biting adults and ensuring that Naples’ residents and visitors can safely enjoy the beach or a stroll down 5th Avenue.

The Collier Mosquito Control District was created as the Naples Mosquito Control District by the Florida Legislature in 1950, and it is no coincidence that our area’s population started boom just a few years later. As we look toward the future, our Board is working diligently to create a framework that will allow the District to continue providing an excellent value for our taxpayers for generations to come.
