Parlor Production Studio

The Parlor Studio is a world class recording studio located right down the heart of Nashville's Musi Larry designed and built The Parlor Studio. It really works.

The Parlor Studio / Best Built Songs is owned by Larry Sheridan and Robin Ruddy. Larry and Robin moved to Nashville in 1986 and have been steadily growing their music business together ever since. In 1994 Larry and Robin started the publishing company Best Built Songs literally from their kitchen table. They are both very involved in signing new songs and writers and pitching material for the comp

any. When they finally outgrew the one room studio and office in their house they started looking for a new home for Best Built Songs, and for the studio. That new home was an old bungalow on Music Row that was then owned by Randy Travis and was used as a storage place for his concessions. They bought the house in 1997 and renovated it to make what is now known as The Parlor Studio and the offices of Best Built Songs. Larry has a very strong musical background having played the solo circuit in New York City in the 70's while pursuing his jazz studies, but it is his background in architecture and cabinet making that made this studio what it is today. He used Michael Cronin as an acoustical advisor and it has been said time and time again that the recording studio is sonically superior. We get great drum sounds in the 16' high tracking room. Robin grew up in Miami, Florida and started playing the bluegrass circuit in North Carolina and Washington DC in the 70's and 80's. They met while they were living in DC and discovered their mutual love for songwriting. In the summer of 1986 they decided to pack up the u-haul and make the move to Nashville. Since then, Robin has performed and toured with notable artists like Rod Stewart, Ray Stevens, Shania Twain, Lynn Anderson, Deborah Allen and many more, playing pedal steel, banjo, dobro and guitar. Larry is now producing young talented artists in the recording studio, and Robin is working with them on developing their songwriting, performance skills and stage presence.

To top off their writing session, Taylor and Erin will be performing and recording their newly written songs in front of a live audience here at the Parlor on Thursday night. Sam Bacco at The Parlor giving a drum tuning masterclass. Sam is a Nashville session legend, the principal percussionist of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, is an expert drum maker, has designed drums for practically all of the major drum manufacturers, and owns one of the best collection of percussion instruments in the world. Second in The Parlor Introductions Series is Lawson White, in-house engineer and producer, as well as accomplished drummer, songwriter, and performer. Lawson has worked with artists such as twenty-one pilots, Shania Twain, Shakira, Lake Street Dive, Brittany Howard, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Gil Scott-Heron, Turnstile, Ben Folds, Steve Reich, Tony Trischka, and the Metropolitan Opera.

For any of our friends wondering: Yes there was some terrible explosion downtown Nashville early this morning. Still no confirmation of the source of the explosion, but many buildings damaged for a couple of block radius.
Our studio is about a mile from there and is in good shape. Our house is about 4 miles away, and we felt the concussion. Didn't really understand it until the local news came on and started coverage of it. Praying it was nothing more than an accident. Just letting you all know we're ok. Hope you are too and having a wonderful Christmas morning.

End of May Covid update.....we are booking sessions again!!!! Have 3 sessions beginning early June and we will be prepared for safe distancing and sensitization. Particle masks. Surfaces prep'd before and after. etc. Everything we can do to keep everyone safe........and a few musicians and studio engineers will start toward whatever our new normal will be. Baby steps. OMG Nashville, can you just chill out for a minute. Tornado's........Covid......another storm that took out electricity to 130 thousand homes. ALSO took out internet.....really? Well Robin Ruddy and I were once again on the lucky side of this last storm. Didn't lose power at home or studio, but it's been a long time since we lived without internet for 3 days. So before I catch up on about 500 emails........and applying for all the Cares Act assistance that I feel sure we're not getting..........a very special day passed yesterday and we promise that we'll have a big party to make up for it...............whenever we can have a big party again. Cinco de Mayo was the 20th anniversary of opening The Parlor Studio. Who knew we could possibly keep that place open for 20 years. Can't tell you how many studios have come and gone in Nashville. We're still standing and proud of it. One day soon we'll actually have clients and musicians back in too. Robin and I had a celebratory shot of tequila to cheer for ourselves. We'll share that love with you all again in the near future. Thanks to all the friends and musicians and clients and engineers and songwriters and tech people and interns and everyone else who has helped us survive this long and many, many more.

We had the incredible pleasure of visiting Robin Ruddy of Parlor Production Studio. She gave us a tour of the beautiful studio which has exquisitely handcrafted touches by her late husband and you can just feel the infused love and care in this place. Robin is an accomplished musician herself, having toured with Rod Stewart and even playing for royalty. We were geeking out at her photo board that included pics with the QUEEN (Dolly Parton) and even Prince Harry. She was so humble and kind and even made a commitment to come to our show this weekend. ❤️ She also penciled us in for a writing session on Monday!! So grateful to have connected with such a wonderful person.

We're absolutely loving it in Nashville and so grateful for all the unexpected opportunities that have come up in our short stay. We still have lots of things to do on the schedule and we are looking forward to sharing what we are up to. 😊
