In late 2015, my husband and I bought this adorable little house in the middle of the desert. No, we don't really hear the trains inside, our walls are river rock and stucco (14-15in thick.) Being from a small town back east, Needles just felt right, in a way, for me. Hubby worked in rail tech before switching jobs to move out here. The trains have been cool for him. nd what we do....mainly me though. I started the page to bring awareness to the underpass and it's happenings. If I was home and heard a bridge impact, I would take pics and gather a little info, if possible. I was asked to take the page down by the city. The railroad was using it as ammo against the city. Of course I didn't. BNSF didn't know how much is was actually getting hit. The final straw was when a propane truck got wedged under. It was closed March 2020
The city and BNSF got together and agreed on the new protection pipes to be installed so the bridge wouldn't be compromised. It took over 3 years to get everything approved and installed. The underpass was reopened June 29, 2023. In April/May 2023, we added cameras to the house so we could keep an eye on things when we were not home. I had picked up a part time summer job so they were nice to have. To our surprise shortly after, we found out about the reopening being soon. While we didn't add the camera to be for the underpass, certainly served double duty till another dedicated cam could be installed. Several amazing bridge fans were able to help with donations so it was up and going much sooner. It was installed Sept 2, 2023. Dec 2024 we went live on youtube. You can catch the stream 24/7 now.
