I can't be the only person who has gotten legitimately pi**ed off at a voice assistant.

You ask Siri to turn on the patio lights. Nothing.

So you ask again.

But this time you say the exact same words slower, louder and with a completely different accent because apparently that's going to fix it.
By the third attempt you're arguing with your own house.

John Savio made a pretty funny distinction during Episode 22. Most of us don't really have smart homes. We have a collection of smart devices that may or may not cooperate with each other depending on the day.
What he builds is something completely different, where the technology is actually integrated into the house and designed to work together.
Which sounds great.

I'd personally settle for the patio lights coming on the first f*cking time.

Most people don't realize it, but your home is becoming the central hub for AI. It's designed to keep everything private and within your house, even with advanced GPT capabilities built-in for complex queries. It's thinking, but staying local.

Here's one of those little technology changes that sounds completely normal until you actually think about what's happening.
My Blink cameras used to say, "Motion detected in backyard."
That's it.
Then one day I get a notification that says, "A brown dog is outside grooming itself."
I open the video and there's my Golden Retriever doing exactly that.
Then you start getting descriptions of people delivering packages and what they're carrying, and you realize we've quietly moved from cameras detecting motion to software actually interpreting what it's looking at.
That's pretty wild.
John Savio and I were having a legitimately interesting conversation about where that technology goes once AI starts getting "eyes" inside the home.
Unfortunately, I then realized I could probably dress like a brown dog and walk past somebody's camera to see what it says.
So that's obviously where the conversation went.
I regret nothing.

Who remembers when people actually CAMPED OUT for new technology?
John Savio waited eight hours for the first iPhone.
He had a tent. They ordered pizzas. Everybody hung out waiting to get their hands on this completely new piece of technology.

And somehow that sounds more fun than refreshing a tracking number 47 times waiting for UPS.

There was something different about those early technology launches. Nobody knew what these things were eventually going to become. You just knew something interesting was happening and you wanted to be part of it.

John has apparently been this kind of tech nerd for a LONG time.

Anybody here actually wait in one of those original iPhone lines?

Most people don't consider the true fallout of a data breach. For a small business owner, one bad click or a single compromised email can lead to sleepless nights, client data exposure, and even shutdowns. It's a stark reminder of how vulnerable we are.

I think most of us are way past "Should I use AI?"
We're using it. The question John Savio brought up during this conversation was what happens when we start relying on it for everything.

Need to write an email? AI.
Need an idea? AI.
Need to research something? AI.
Need to solve a problem? AI.

That's incredibly convenient, but John's concern was pretty simple: "Wisdom is gonna be a thing of the past if we're not careful."

We're not giving up AI. Not even close. But the old "use it or lose it" argument does make you wonder what happens when we stop exercising some of these skills ourselves.

Maybe the goal isn't less AI. Maybe it's remembering that the damn thing is supposed to be a tool.

Have you caught yourself relying on AI for something you absolutely used to do yourself?

Nobody talks about how social engineering has become automated. What used to take phone calls and deep dives is now 24/7. And it's not just lone actors. Governments encourage citizens to attack countries like the US, funded and required to build farms of computers in empty houses just to pretend to be American remote workers. It's a whole other level.
