Making a Difference, One Lemonade Stand at a Time! 🍋

Who says you have to be an adult to make a difference? Two local 7th graders proved just how much of an impact young people can make when they put their hearts into a great cause.

Together, they held two fundraisers for the Ronald McDonald House, selling homemade lemonade, brownies, and chocolate chip cookies. Their hard work raised an incredible $900 to help families going through difficult times. ❤️

Their story is a wonderful reminder that every effort counts and even the simplest idea can make a big difference.

We Remember. We Honor. We Will Never Forget.

On September 11, 2001, our nation was forever changed. Today, we pause to remember the lives lost, honor the heroes who ran toward danger, and recognize the strength and compassion that brought communities together in the days that followed.

We remember the families who lost loved ones, the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice, and all those whose lives were forever changed.

If your Basil looks more like a shrub than an herb this year or
you bought too much for a recipe, you’re not alone. Basil seems
particularly abundant in Long Island gardens and grocers. Maybe
it’s the weather or maybe, as in my garden, the deer have finally
decided there are better things to eat.

Long Island Locavore has previously covered preparing and
preserving basil, including freezing the leaves and turning pesto
into convenient frozen “bark.” But an overflowing basil patch
deserves some new ideas.

Sneak Peek at our September issue hitting 📬 soon!

In this issue, we are thrilled to share the beautiful wedding story of Arielle and Joey Neto, two hometown sweethearts who met all the way back in first grade! Their wedding was a wonderful celebration of not only their love, but also the family, friendships, and community that have been part of their journey.

You’ll also meet Django, learn about the heartwarming efforts of a local seventh grader who raised money for the Ronald McDonald House. We’ll also take you inside The Knox School as you get to know more about this special local institution and the opportunities it provides to its students.
