Nollywood is big business.

Nollywood has evolved from a grassroots home-video phenomenon into one of the biggest engines of Africa's film economy.
Nigeria's Nollywood ranks as the world's second-largest movie industry by volume, outproducing Hollywood in annual film count. Producing 2,500+ films annually, the industry has become a major source of jobs, investment and cultural influence in Nigeria.

An older IMF estimate valued Nollywood's economic contribution at $7.2 billion, while UNESCO says Africa's wider film and audiovisual industry could eventually generate $20 billion annually and create more than 20 million jobs.

Across the continent, filmmakers are increasingly collaborating across borders, while platforms such as the AMVCAs and AMAA showcase African talent to wider audiences.
Nigerian productions have also found international audiences through global streaming platforms, helping take African stories, languages and culture beyond the continent.

Yet the business still faces major challenges. Nigeria's government estimates that about 70% of potential film revenue is lost to piracy, while limited financing, distribution and infrastructure continue to constrain growth.
