I almost didn't make this video. The death penalty is one of the hardest topics a Christian can talk about, and I'm not here to make enemies. I'm here to look at some things in Scripture that I rarely hear talked about.

In this video: the biblical case for the death penalty, what Exodus 21 actually includes, why Romans 6:23 puts every one of us under the same sentence, what God did with Cain, David, Moses, and Saul, and why I believe Christians shouldn't support the death penalty or take pleasure in it.

What do you do when you trust God but don't understand what He is doing?

Romans 9 takes us into some of the deepest and most difficult questions in Paul's letter: God's promises, Israel, mercy, God's sovereignty, human responsibility, and faith.

In this Bible with Berney episode, we're continuing our journey through Romans using the ESV. Romans 6 showed us freedom from sin's mastery. Romans 7 showed us the battle within. Romans 8 reminded us that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ and that nothing can separate us from God's love.

Now Romans 9 takes us into a difficult question: If God's promises are true, what happened to Israel?

I'm not here pretending to have every theological answer. I'm here to open God's Word, read it carefully, and let Scripture challenge all of usā€”including me.

Romans 9 reminds us that God is God, His ways are higher than ours, and His mercy is something none of us should take for granted.

The breakthrough of faith isn't always getting every answer. Sometimes the breakthrough is trusting God's character when we don't understand His plan.

Romans 8 is one of the most powerful chapters in the Bible, reminding us that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesusā€”and that nothing can separate us from the love of God.

In this Bible with Berney episode, we read Romans 8 straight through from the CSB and then slow down to highlight some of the chapter's most powerful truths: walking by the Spirit, being children of God, finding hope in suffering, trusting God when we don't understand, the Holy Spirit helping us when we don't know how to pray, and God's ability to work through all things for His purposes.

Have you ever prayed, ā€œGod, when is this going to end?ā€ šŸ˜©

Me too.

But Romans 5 challenged me to ask a different question: ā€œGod, what are You building in me while I wait?ā€

Paul gives us a powerful progressionā€”suffering, endurance, character, and hope. It's not always the shortcut we want, but maybe God can use the waiting season to build something in us.

If you're waiting on God right now, don't stop praying. Maybe ask Him what He's teaching you in the middle of it.

Have you ever begged God to change your circumstances, only to realize He might be using those circumstances to change you?

Romans 5 gives us a powerful progression: suffering, endurance, character, and hope.

I know what it's like to want God to change everything around me. But during one of the lowest seasons of my life, something unexpected happenedā€”I wanted to know God more. I wanted Scripture. I wanted prayer. I wanted to understand His character.

Maybe the question isn't only, ā€œGod, when will this end?ā€

Maybe it's, ā€œGod, what are You building in me while I'm here?ā€
