It’s that time of year again.

In this special end-of-year episode, we look back at 2025 and break down our personal Top Horror Movies of the year - the films that scared us, surprised us, stuck with us, and refused to leave our heads long after the credits rolled.

We keep things fun, talking about why certain movies hit hard, what trends defined the year, and how 2025 stacked up as a whole for modern horror. Some picks were obvious, others caused heated debate, and a few may catch you completely off guard.

Along the way, we shout out a handful of honourable mentions featuring movies that narrowly missed the list but still deserve love, and discuss a couple of highly anticipated titles we wanted to watch but just couldn’t fit in before the year wrapped.

If you’re looking for recommendations, curious where your favourites landed, or just want to argue with us from your headphones, this is the perfect way to close out the horror year.

Hit play, settle in, and let’s find out which films truly defined horror in 2025.

In this episode, we unwrap one of the most infamous slashers of the 1980s — Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984) — a film that didn’t just shock audiences, but ignited a full-blown moral panic.

We dig into the movie itself, from its mean-spirited kills and sleazy holiday setting to its strange, unforgettable characters and grim worldview.

We break down what works, what’s unhinged, and why — despite (or because of) its rough edges — it remains one of the most effective and enduring Christmas horror films ever made.

Beyond the bloodshed, we explore the wild behind-the-scenes story: how the film was made, marketed, and almost destroyed by controversy.

We talk about the infamous TV trailer that aired before family-friendly shows like Little House on the Prairie, why parents were outraged at the idea of Santa Claus as a slasher villain, and how protest groups successfully pressured theatres to pull the film from release just days after it opened.

We also place Silent Night, Deadly Night within the wider context of the Video Nasties era, examining how fear-driven censorship, tabloid hysteria, and home video panic shaped the movie’s legacy — and how later VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray releases helped reclaim it as a cult classic rather than a cultural punching bag.

Finally, we make the case for why Silent Night, Deadly Night has stood the test of time: its bleak tone, its commitment to being genuinely uncomfortable. Love it or hate it, this is a movie that refused to behave — and that’s exactly why it still matters.

Whether you’re a long-time defender or a first-time viewer, this episode dives deep into the film that turned Santa into a symbol of terror — and became horror’s most notorious Christmas movie in the process.

It feels surreal posting this on so many levels — both that this has actually happened, and that Adam and I weren’t especially close.

I first had the pleasure of meeting Adam around 12 years ago, and then crossed paths with him a handful of times since while travelling in the States. What always struck me was how genuinely normal he was. From the other side of the world, I’d assumed he was larger than life — but spending even a few minutes with him made it clear why he was able to build a life entirely on his own terms.

He was kind, thoughtful, and had a real passion and zest for life that was impossible not to feel. I’ve always supported whatever path he chose, because even though this is incredibly shocking — and it truly feels like he had so much more to give — he lived in a way most people never manage, even in ten lifetimes.

He was a genuine pioneer, far ahead of his time in how he viewed what life is actually for: living.

Rest in peace to a real one.

This week on ClassHorrorCast, I’m joined by writer-director Mike P. Nelson ( )for an in-depth conversation about the full creative journey of making a film — from that first spark of an idea all the way to release day.

We talk through Mike’s process from start to finish, his favourite parts of filmmaking, and how he decides which projects to say yes to. We also dive into the differences between working on original stories versus established IP, and why writing the films he directs is such an important part of maintaining a clear creative voice.

The conversation then turns to Mike’s latest film, Silent Night, Deadly Night (2025), starring Rohan Campbell as Billy. Mike breaks down how the movie came together, shares behind-the-scenes stories from the shoot, and reveals his favourite scene in the film.

We also talk about how he feels now that the movie is finally out in the world, the reaction from audiences, and whether he’d return to the franchise for a sequel.

It’s a thoughtful, honest, and passionate discussion with a filmmaker who truly loves the genre — and a must-listen for horror fans and aspiring filmmakers alike.

This Christmas, we’re heading deep underground to revisit one of the most overlooked holiday horror films of the 2000s.

In this episode of ClassHorrorCast, we explore P2 (2007)—a tense, claustrophobic thriller set on Christmas Eve inside a lonely, echoing parking garage where escape feels impossible.

We dig into the film’s chilling blend of psychological horror and seasonal dread, the intense performances from Rachel Nichols and Wes Bentley, and the behind-the-scenes influence of Alexandre Aja that shaped its tone and brutality.

Along the way, we unpack how the movie’s tight setting, gritty lighting, and growing sense of desperation create a uniquely unnerving Christmas atmosphere that most horror fans have sadly forgotten about.

Whether you remember P2 from its original release or you’re discovering it for the first time, this episode invites you to take a fresh look at a film that offers far more than its simple setup suggests. It’s a story of survival, obsession, and holiday terror that deserves a place alongside the genre’s festive classics.

So grab a warm drink, settle in, and descend with us to Level P2 for a Christmas Eve you won’t soon forget.
