Time to share an opinion: What was the craft beer that changed the game for you?

Deep dish and a Great Lakes Brewing Company Christmas Ale always make for a stellar combination. This was one of the original brews that got us hooked on craft beer many moons ago... and forever changed our palate for the better.

When you hit the Festival of Wood & Barrel-Aged Beers on Friday night, but happen to be at another event Saturday, sampling beers from Old Irving Brewing Co. at the exact same time it’s announced they claimed a medal at FoBAB, you make Matthew, their director of operations, pose with a winning can of Coffee Champurrado Krampus Cookies.

Preorder sale for Old Irving’s Krampus Cookies and four barrel-aged variants goes live on Oznr 11/13 and then they’re on draft in the taproom 11/18.

One of the nearly 400 locations you can grab a copy of Illinois Brewing's fall issue is the award-winning Old Irving Brewing Co. on Chicago's NW side, where we recently enjoyed a sampling of their Oktoberfest, Lifesblood dark lager and Pitmaster pale ale. Can't wait to see what they're rolling out this weekend at the annual Festival of Wood & Barrel-Aged Beers.

The countdown is on. Just a few more days until the annual Festival of Wood & Barrel-Aged Beers from the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild. That means 160+ brewers from around the country bringing their best barrel-aged beers to downtown Chicago. A select number of tickets remain for Nov. 7-8. You won't want to miss it.

Brewery spotlight on the Historic Red Rooster Brew Werks and Distillery: A seven-year, multi-million dollar restoration project to this historic hotel, bar and restaurant resulted in a charming, versatile addition to the southern Illinois craft beer scene

The Wrights aimed for “vintage looking, only modernized” with the massive restoration. “We wanted people to look around and try to decide what is original — and maybe 125 years old — and what isn’t,” Kendra says.

One of the nearly 400 locations you can grab a copy of Illinois Brewing magazine is The Beer Temple, a unique bar and bottle shop on Chicago's NW side.

Enjoyed a Hop Butcher for the World Aspect of Libra hazy IPA, Scratch Brewing Company dandelion lager, Dovetail Brewery wet-hopped Hopfenlager, and Pipeworks Brewing Company Bluetooth Squirrel pale ale off their always impressive draft list.

From our spotlight on Double Clutch Brewery in our current fall issue...

The space: Tucked away in a tree-lined neighborhood on the north side of Evanston, this is a huge, stylish space, offering three distinctly different rooms with vaulted ceilings, exposed ductwork and massive garage door-style windows that can be opened when the weather cooperates. Plus, up to 10 rare and vintage cars are on display (and regularly rotated among the Chookaszian family collection of more than 100). We’re talking McClarens, a 1955 Ford Fairlane, 1956 Aston Martin, 1921 Ford Model T, 1913 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost and a 1972 Ferrari 365 GTC, just to name a few.
