When you have the patience to wait out an apocalyptic thunderstorm, you likely will have any water park — even the largest one in Illinois — to yourselves afterward. First photo is the reaction from my son and nieces upon hearing the waterslides reopened last week. Second photo is four tired, soggy kids at closing time.

If you've never been to Raging Waves Waterpark, it's well worth the trip out to Yorkville for an outing the kiddos will be talking about for months afterward. Such an impressive, well laid-out venue covering some 58 acres. Think 32 water slides, 43 private cabanas, a wave pool, lazy river, toddler areas, 11 different dining areas, a sandy beach and more. And a bonus for first-time visitors who may feel overwhelmed by it all: The staff couldn't have been nicer.
