Well, you burners have been back for a few weeks now. How was it really?

I know all the media loves to blow everything up. That’s their job. But the reality is often way better. I have heard some say it’s the best yet, despite the challenges.

We only went 5 times (maybe it will be 6 soon…). Each experience is different and while I don’t really have a favorite, my last time was probably my least favorite (so I’d like to change that).

Even a cloudy day has a hard time putting a damper on this view.

Stuck between Arizona and Utah (but on Navajo time!), Monument Valley Tribal Park looks good at any time.

Over millions of years, wind, water, and ice have eroded softer materials, leaving behind the iconic towering sandstone formations you see in the image.

Safari week continues with this sweet animal and face.

It’s moments like this where I pinch myself. Is it luck? Maybe. Good timing for sure!

I just love lions and the pride was close by as Simba here took to the hill.

Ahhhh, our room with a view at Ngorongoro Crater.

This lodge (which must have changed hands or been renovated) sat right on the edge.

The night before we had been dropped off at the wrong accommodation. We had upgraded at every stop to a lodge, rather than the more economical camping., but we found ourselves sleeping on the floor of a tent with no pillows, no blankets, or anything. We made the best of it and despite the very basic accommodations, we had a great time! We enjoyed our safari mates and had a chance to get to know some other people. Gail loves to meet new people! And my husband fell in love with a piece of art at one of the nearby souvenir stalls. We enjoy our art to this day.

Fast forward to the next day after our safari in the Serengeti and we expected a nice lodge but again felt like we got dropped off at the wrong location! This place was way beyond our expectations.
It was so beautiful and I wanted to explore every nook and cranny. Like most vacations time seems a little skinny.

At night the local tribe put on a show in the lobby and I remember it was on this day, 8 years ago, we departed for the remainder of our journey. We celebrated with cake. The staff was so lovely.

We flew off to Zanzibar after our one night stay and closed out the safari portion of this trip.

These memories will last a lifetime and the images help to keep the moments fresh.

Rush hour on Safari.

There are times when you have the place to yourself. But if someone spots something, they share it with other drivers. I mean, if there’s a cheetah or leopard, the word is going to get on.

I felt totally conflicted in the moment. While I want to see these animals, I don’t want to harass or bother them unnecessarily.

The good news is, after dark, the jeeps leave and it’s all quiet on the plain again.
