We’ve written extensively this summer about the incredible careers of music industry mavericks Myra Smith and Margaret Lewis. The season just got even better for fans of these two amazing women, who serve as a continued inspiration for all of us at Fervor Records. Their talent, drive, perseverance, and outside-the-box thinking continue to resonate through their incredible music.

Iconic greats like Dolly Parton & Porter Wagoner, Kitty Wells, Jeannie C. Riley, Mickey Gilley, Johnny Adams, and Freddy Fender are just a few of the artists who covered their songs in the 1960s and 70s. Those classics went on to be recorded by Bill Wyman, Brian Setzer, and Bruce Willis in the 2000s, and were even featured on Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter Tour.

We’re proud to continue their legacy by landing their songs in major motion pictures and TV shows, reaching millions of ears internationally. Their latest success is in the new feature film "American Summer," starring Steve Guttenberg and Christie Brinkley, which features their 1965 recording “Yeah Yeah Baby” with Margaret on vocals. -Discover The Magic of Martie Echito-
Upland, California native Martie Echito got his start in the 1960s gigging with high school bands. The talented singer, songwriter, and keyboardist headed to Los Angeles where his band, The Branch Estate, signed with Carousel Records and released their first single.

Martie went on to sign with Polydor Records and ink a publishing deal with April-Blackwood. This deal landed his songs with artists including Engelbert Humperdinck, Rick Dees, English singer-songwriter Clifford T. Ward, to name a few. His music was also covered across the Sparrow, Emerald, Live Oak, and La Co**ha record labels.

Fervor Records is proud to be the home of much of Martie’s back catalog from 1970 through 1989. Since signing with Fervor, Martie’s songs have landed across nearly two dozen TV shows, films, and ads. Tonight, his 1981 recording “Only Your Tears” appears in Episode 108 of the FX/Hulu period thriller The Shards.

• Dolly Parton, Myra Smith & Margaret Lewis •
The enduring legacy of Dolly Parton continues to inspire millions, and her stellar songwriting helped forge her iconic sound. However, Dolly also covered tunes by other standout songwriters, including the hit songwriting duo of Myra Smith and Margaret Lewis.

Fervor Records proudly represents many of the songs by Myra and Margaret. Myra was an industry trailblazer, often referred to as “the female Sam Phillips.” In 1955, when Dolly was just 9 years old, Myra founded Royal Audio Music, Inc. The company would become better known as Ram Records. In 1958, Myra discovered a charismatic 19-year-old singer by the name of Margaret Lewis. The two soon became songwriting partners and would go on to score numerous chart-toppers, having their songs covered by dozens of country, pop, and R&B stars.

In 1969, Dolly and Porter Wagoner covered their song “There Never Was a Time” on their RCA Records release, "Always, Always." The song had already landed at #5 on the Billboard Country charts for Jeanne C. Riley that year. However, Dolly and Porter put a twist on the hit by performing it as a duet, with their LP "Always, Always" landing at #5 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. • The Lasting Legacy Continues •
The late Margaret Lewis’s incredible career began in Snyder, TX, with a band she formed in high school named The Thunderbolts. Her outstanding vocal chops soon landed her on the stage of the famed Louisiana Hayride radio program in Shreveport, LA. This is the historic show that launched the careers of Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Jim Reeves, Kitty Wells, and Hank Williams. It was also where Margaret’s standout talents earned her a spot as a regular cast member.

She soon signed with Myra Smith’s Shreveport label, Ram Records. Ram released a string of singles written by Margaret and label owner Myra Smith. A young guitarist by the name of Johnny Winter was even a member of Margaret’s band, appearing on many of her Ram Records singles. She also went on tour as a vocalist for Dale Hawkins and appeared on many of his Chess Records recordings.

In 1963, she signed with Capitol Records and released multiple singles. By the mid-1960s, Margaret and Myra relocated to Nashville to write songs for producer Shelby Singleton’s new labels, SSS and Plantation. They scored multiple hits with pop, country, and R&B artists, including Jeannie C. Riley, Johnny Adams, Connie Francis, Peggy Scott & Jo Jo Benson, and Ray Pillow, to name a few. Her songs have also been recorded by Brenda Lee, Johnny Robinson, Mickey Giles, Freddy Fender, Bill Wyman, and Brian Setzer. Together, Myra and Margaret racked up seven BMI Performance Awards for their chart-topping tunes.

In 1998, she released the CD But I Know I Like It as Maggie Lewis Warwick & The Thunderbolts. The record dives deep into her musical influences. Contained on the album is the gospel song “Turn It All Over To Jesus,” which appears in the new movie Idiots. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and opens exclusively in theaters on August 28th. The music of Margaret Lewis continues to resonate with new generations of fans, and Fervor Records is honored to perpetuate her incredible legacy.

• Kerbey & Camp, Adults •
Phoenix, AZ vocalist, keyboardist, and songwriter Al Kerbey strikes again! After languishing in his personal archive for decades, Al signed his back catalog to Fervor Records. Since then, his songs have landed in hit series including Young Sheldon, Only Murders in the Building, 9-1-1, The White Lotus, Stranger Things, and The Shards, to name a few. Add Al’s 1986 forgotten, fun-loving pop tune “Hold Me” to his credit list, as it appears in Episode 202 of the FX sitcom Adults.

Timothy Camponeschi, aka Timothy Camp, rose to fame when his band Bootcamp had two music videos air on MTV’s inaugural day of broadcast, both of which went into solid rotation on the network. Timothy Camp went on to issue a self-titled private-press cassette in 1987, which fell off the radar not long after its release. However, he forged on, landing a gig as a Motown songwriter, scoring studio gigs with Angela Bofill and Christina Aguilera, and launching a successful career as a jazz artist under the moniker Slim Man. In 2025, he signed with Fervor Records. That’s when Fervor uncovered the long-lost cassette. One year later, his tune “Hey Mona” from the forgotten release gets its due in Episode 206 of Adults.

Both episodes air August 27th, and both songs are available from Fervor Records across all major music streaming platforms.

Lab-Rats Lost 80s Gem Resonates in The Shards
Lab-Rats is the brainchild of singer and multi-instrumentalist Jim Magnole. Incredibly, Jim wrote and recorded every note of both Lab-Rats’ records in his North Miami, Florida apartment. Magnole’s formidable talents led him to numerous adventures, including opening for the likes of Brownsville Station and Edgar Winter, becoming a member of KC and The Sunshine Band, and recording guitar on four LPs by 2 Live Crew, including their multi-platinum album, As Nasty As They Want To Be.

Forty-six years after recording “Reptile Love,” a quirky new wave gem that epitomizes the era, the song can be heard in Episode 106 of the FX Networks' teenage coming-of-age erotic thriller, The Shards. Lab-Rats is a pure sonic treasure of the early 1980s, and Fervor is proud to perpetuate Jim Magnole’s distinctive musical legacy.
