“Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” the biblical story told in a musical form, will be open on The Garage Door Theater Stage in Pilot Point on Sept. 11.

The cast and crew total nearly 40 people, with many new faces gracing the stage.

“Starbright and Pilot Point have never seen this in their own community,” co-director Ryan Heitzman said. “For me, it's really exciting because I get to bring, you know, a big vibe with adding all of these moving lights and doing this kind of a rock-style show. It's going to be really spectacular.”

Providence Village residents took their chance to speak about the proposed tax rate and budget, along with other matters, at the Sept. 1 Town Council meeting.

Town Manager Brian Roberson recapped the Aug. 18 town meeting, where he spoke in depth about the proposed budget and tax rate.

“The proposed tax rate is $0.511093 [per $100 valuation], which is lower than the no new revenue rate of $0.511393,” Roberson said. “The no new revenue M&O portion is $0.270980. The debt portion is $0.240413. The voter approval tax rate is $0.569119.”

He reiterated that it is a tax rate increase, not a tax increase.

A tweak to the city's code to loosen parking restrictions prompted public confusion and frustration that spilled into the Aubrey council chambers on Aug. 27.

Several residents spoke against making parking more strict, and city staff attempted to clarify what Ordinance 971-26 would actually mean for the community.

'Currently, our ordinance only allows a resident's vehicle parked in the street for a 24-hour period,' Aubrey Police Chief Richard Brooks said before the vote was held. 'After that, it is in violation of ordinance. In reviewing that, that would mean if you work Monday through Friday and you, on the weekend, park your vehicle on the street at your home on the street at 6 o'clock Friday evening, at 6 o'clock Saturday, you would get a violation.'

The Aubrey Lady Chaparrals varsity volleyball team continued their recent winning streak, knocking off the Northwest Lady Texans three sets to none Tuesday evening.

The Lady Chaps started slow, but once they found their footing, they took control of the match to earn their 23rd win of the season.

“We did a really good job in Set 1; it took us probably 7-8 points to get going, but then we did a really good job of controlling the momentum,” said Whitney Marriott, Aubrey head volleyball coach. “That helped us get our offense going, and we carried that into Set 2. … We didn’t play as clean as we want to in the third set but cleaned it up towards the end and did a good job of finishing it out.”

Dozens of classic cars will return to Pilot Point once again for another year of ChromeFest.

This year is extra special for Grace Point Church of the Nazarene Pastor Dwayne Edwards, as the event honors all veterans in celebration of the theme 250 Years of Freedom.

“God gave us our country,” Edwards said. “He gave us an incredible gift. … Those in the Marines and Navy and Air Force and Army—those who [are] in service have helped us keep our freedoms and liberties that has made our country, to me, the greatest on the earth.”

The event is from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday on the Pilot Point Historic Square.

𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗝𝗘𝗖𝗧 𝗧𝗢𝗠𝗔𝗛𝗔𝗪𝗞: 𝗔𝗨𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗬’𝗦 𝗥𝗢𝗟𝗘

I have heard from residents who are concerned about Project Tomahawk and the potential data center development being considered in Prosper near our community.

I want to be clear about Aubrey’s role: this property is not within the City of Aubrey, and Aubrey does not have the authority to approve, deny, or impose our development standards on the project. Those decisions belong to Prosper and the other agencies with jurisdiction.

However, respecting jurisdiction does not mean remaining silent about potential regional impacts.

A project of this size could affect people beyond Prosper’s city limits. Residents have raised reasonable questions about traffic and road capacity, noise and lighting, electricity and water demands, construction activity, emergency-response planning, and the project’s proximity to existing and future neighborhoods.

Aubrey’s position should not be to tell Prosper what decision it must make. Our responsibility is to advocate for communication, transparency, and careful consideration of any effects that could reach our residents.

I am asking Prosper to keep Aubrey informed as the project moves through its review process, allow our staff to review and comment on relevant impact studies, include our public-safety personnel in discussions that may affect emergency services, and encourage the developer to communicate directly with nearby residents.

None of those requests would give Aubrey authority over Prosper’s decision. They would simply ensure that neighboring communities have accurate information and that regional impacts are considered before final decisions are made.

Aubrey and Prosper are both dealing with rapid growth, limited regional road capacity, and increasing demands on public infrastructure. Projects do not always affect only the jurisdiction in which they are located, and our communities benefit when local governments communicate early and work together.

I will continue advocating for Aubrey’s residents while respecting the legal boundaries of our authority. That is the responsible balance we should maintain.

The Tioga Lady Bulldogs varsity volleyball team earned their 18th win of the season, defeating the S&S Consolidated High School Lady Rams three sets to none Tuesday night.

The Lady Bulldogs moved like a well-oiled machine as they dismantled their opponents and outscored the Lady Rams 78-59 in the win.

“We played well, and I give credit to S&S; it's always a tough place to play,” said Trevin Robinson, Tioga head volleyball coach. “I believe it was our first time ever sweeping them, and that was something the girls talked about wanting to do going into the game.”

The persistent drought has caused the fire risk to increase to unsafe levels.

That's why Tuesday the Denton County Commissioner's Court issued a burn ban.

“Prevention of potential wildland fires is essential to the safety of county residents. Wildfires can be devastating and difficult on everyone, especially farmers and ranchers; wildfires can destroy not only lives and property, but livelihoods as well,” County Judge Andy Eads said in a county release. “With everyone’s help we can make our communities a safer place to live and enjoy life.”
