A flood watch is in effect along and north of I-20. The heaviest rain and highest flood risk occurs Sunday night and Monday. Rain amounts of 2 to 5 inches are the most likely total at any one location, but isolated amounts of 8+ inches are expected somewhere in North Texas.

We don't know which county(s) will receive the 8 inch or more extreme rainfall, but if it does occur near you, significant flash flooding will result. Everyone in the watch area should plan on extra commuting time, especially on Monday. Know your alternate routes should your normal roads be flooded. If you're in a location that has flooded in the past, you'll need monitor the weather Sunday night and Monday and be prepared to move to higher ground.

So, how has the gamble for rain worked out for you this week? Those that were lucky received some very beneficial downpours!⛈️⛈️ Others... not as much. With more rainfall needed to drastically change things, drought conditions will unfortunately persist.

It's still hot out there, but our average temperature peaks in early August. We're on the downward slope toward cooler weather! The average last 100° day is in late August, and the first cold front that brings temperatures in the 50s arrives in mid September. The average first dip into the 30s is in early November, with the first freeze typically coming around Thanksgiving.

You've probably heard by now that there is rain in the forecast Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. But does that mean it will rain at your location? The answer to that question is one part weather forecast and one part statistics, and together it's like a casino game. SPOILER ALERT: This game has a 1 in 5 chance that YOU LOSE and don't see any measurable rainfall this week!

Since we know that the rain will be randomly scattered each day, and because a location that receives rain on one day will have no impact on its chances of rain the following days, this is like a game of dice. The weather forecast controls how "loaded" the dice are in one's favor. The math says that the forecast for the North Texas region has an 82% chance that a location sees at least 0.01" of rainfall this week. Unfortunately the numbers for rain totals that are actually significant show that there is only a 22% chance of a half inch or more on one of those days and just a 2% chance of an inch or more - which many of us would call hitting the jackpot in this drought.

Bottom line: Most will see some rain. Some will miss out completely. Just a few lucky winners will get more than an inch.

A fantastic write up by the Pilot Point Post-Signal !!! Thank you for your continued support!! Folks keep asking what this “rainbow” business is about... ...well we spilled the beans at the festival and folks were excited to hear the news. 🎧🎤A recorded album of Jay Melugin’s original music is in the works. Volume 1 will be released soon. We have enough to do several more volumes as well. Stay tuned for more news of “Steppin on a Rainbow...
