It’s just a free puppy.
No it’s not.
Today’s vet bill: $616.29 - and that was just for ONE day.
$461.29 for anesthesia + procedure + antibiotics.
$155.00 for Little Jon’s neuter, and that’s WITH the free laser therapy and free nail trim they threw in for rescue.
And this is what responsible ownership looks like. Not the food. Not the crate. Not the cute collar at Petsmart. This is the part people don’t budget for.
One ear infection? $300.
Ate a sock? $1,500.
Torn ACL? $4,000-$6,000.
Need a biopsy like one of our dogs did? Hundreds more before you even know what it is.
We’ve had non-stop medical since June. Every dog we take in gets fully vetted before it ever goes to a home, because that’s what they deserve.
So when rescues charge a $300-400 adoption fee and people say we’re “too expensive” — this is why. That fee doesn’t even cover HALF of what we just paid today. We lose money on almost every single dog, and we do it happily because they are worth it.
If you can’t afford a $500 emergency vet bill tomorrow, you can’t afford a dog today. And that’s okay to admit.
If you have your dogs and you love them, hug them and start a little emergency fund for them. If you want to help us keep saying YES to the ones no one else will take, we could really use you right now.
We paid this out of pocket today. $0.00 balance due. Because the dogs come first. Always.
