Jackpot Records began in 1997 in Portland, Oregon's Hawthorne neighborhood as an independent retailer set on getting music into the hands and ears of the people who love it. Jackpot Records is founded on the idea that the music matters, offering a wide selection of both New and Used Vinyl Lp's and cd's. In 2004, an independent record label of the same name was born into the Jackpot Records family.

In its current conception, Jackpot Records operates as a reissue label featuring albums and bands that have been seminal within their respective genres. Currently To date, Jackpot Records has reissued over 70+ works from such artists as: The Wipers, Etta James, Sun Ra, DEVO, and more. Care is paid to giving each album the most authentic and true-to-form representation, with all recordings taken from the original master tapes whenever possible.

Today’s The Day!!!!!

Our latest Jackpot Records Label release drops today the revered reggae album 1976’s “War Ina Babylon” by Max Romeo & The Upsetters.

Originally released on Island Records, the album is considered one of the greatest Reggae albums of all time and was a massive influence on the UK punk movement that was just starting to bubble to the surface.
The record’s incredible power belies an unlikely partnership between one of the world’s greatest producers (and experimenters in sound), Lee “Scratch” Perry, and vocalist Max Romeo (who by 1976 had performed on over 120 7” singles) Romeo had been transforming from his “rude” records to writing lyrics with social themes as the era in Jamaica was rife with poverty, gangs, and politically motivated killings. As he was looking to produce protest music at its most powerful alongside music that would never leave the listener’s souls, Lee Perry and Max Romeo started collaborating together.

Recorded in two weeks in 1976, utilizing Lee Perry’s kitchen sink production, War Ina Babylon is considered part of Lee Perry’s ‘holy trinity’ Black Ark produced LPs released by Island Records (Junior Murvin’s Police and Thieves and The Heptones’ Party Time being the other classics LPs in the trinity), this LP continues to find new fans with every passing generation.

All sourced and cut from the original analog master tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio.

Hello all you music people out there‼️ We picked up some killer deeper cut jazz/soul/reggae/etc represses—hitting the shelves now ⌛️ Stand out titles for me (parker) are all the repressed Actuel titles, namely 'Yasmina, a black woman' by Archie Shepp, a truly stunning album in his body of work as an artist. Older rocksteady releases from The Paragons, The Melodians, and Desmond Dekker bring a much needed vibe in the summer season (although, hits on the right rainy day too). Peep the 94 East comp which features a 17yo Prince on guitar!! And lastly, one of the most underrated pianists in leftfield jazz of the 60s and 70s, Paul Bley's 'Ramblin' is an awesome exposé into what a simple trio can pull off musically and emotionally; a challenging listen at times but just as rewarding!
