Just dropped another tune on Bandcamp.com. This is "Half Way to Dawn", my tribute to the genius of Billy Strayhorn, who wrote and arranged for Duke Ellington. His favorite time to work was in the wee hours. He was black and openly gay...2 very difficult scenarios back in his day. He wanted to be a classical pianist but blacks were not recognized in the classical genre back then. When he died a friend of Duke's asked him "Are you OK?" Duke said "No...nothing will ever be OK again."

Just dropped my Jazz Suite, "Deucalion Parts I-IV"

Couldn't have done it without the excellent musicians from New Kind of Talk, my jazz group. This was inspired by the 5-book series from novelist Dean Koontz, who pretty much re-wrote the Frankenstein story...but this time the "monster" is a kind-hearted good guy & hero of the story "Deucalion". His creator Victor Frankenstein is an evil genius who has perfected cloning and is attempting to take over the world. It's a great read and I hope you enjoy the music as much as I did creating it ! Thanks for your support of my music on band camp.

Today we celebrate Miles Davis’ 100th Birthday. On such a momentous occasion, I’m forced to look back at not only my career with Miles, but with his immense influence on modern music of all kinds. From the bebop era to the cool period to the amazing Prestige Records era and onto the great quartets. Not satisfied to rest on of those groundbreaking directions, Miles delved into the electronic period and again lead the way to the fusion of rock, world music and onto the funky period of the 80s. Before his passing, he was even experimenting with hip-hop. Through all these genres, he exhibited the highest standard for excellence and uniqueness. We are all richer for having had a giant like him lead the way again and again. There is so much more to say about him past the music that I’ll have to take the next several days to delve into the other areas he was a leader in. Happy Heavenly birthday Miles. We will forever be in you debt for what you brought into the world. What you gave us is immeasurable. May God bless and keep your dear creative soul.
