What is a crowdsourced animation? Using a section of the Bash's opening video, we printed out the 240 individual frames that comprised the spot (animation consists of individual images - typically 24 frames per second). We then gave patrons of the festival colored pencils, markers, and crayons to color in each of the black and white frames and allowed them to scan their colored versions back into the animation in real-time to see a colored version of the animation come to life! A highlight from year two was working on this second event opener. It was a monumental task, but luckily we had a great team of dashtronauts, community of freelancers, and studios to bring The Dash Bash 2023 opener to life in epic fashion.

A hallmark from year one was the opening video. Erin Bradley, Jay Brown, and Megan DeMarco led an amazing team of creatives in building this EPIC collaboration. Adding-in sound design from the incredible team at Antfood was the icing on the cake that made this animation sing.

As we approach this year's Bash on June 11th - 13th, we wanted to take a look back at the origin of our festival. Shortly before our five year anniversary, Co-Founders Mack Garrison and Cory Livengood discussed throwing a big party to celebrate the longevity of the studio. It would be a big Bash - The Dash Bash - and it would celebrate the community of creatives who helped support and lift-up the studio over the years. As the guest list grew, so did the idea that the Bash should be more than just a party, it should be a conference to celebrate this amazing community and inclusivity within the motion space. Five years later we're prepping for our third event! But before we look forward, we're looking back at the development of all the creative that went into this festival starting with our initial branding efforts led by the talented Zack Davenport.
