We got a first taste of Songbird last night during the media preview, and let’s just say—everything was delicious.

From Meg Paradise and Charlie Blue Arm, the duo behind Raleigh’s beloved Umbrella Dry Bar, Songbird is a new daylight-to-dusk spot in Raleigh built around coffee, smoothies, cocktails, small bites, and a whole lot of intention.

The menu moves from morning coffee, tea, and smoothies into evening cocktails, zero-proof drinks, low-proof options, and seasonal small plates, all with a focus on local ingredients, fermentation, preservation, and the kind of details that make you slow down and actually pay attention to what’s in the glass and on the plate.

Songbird opens for evening service on Saturday, June 13, with all-day service beginning on Sunday, June 14.

📍 1020 E. Whitaker Mill Road, Raleigh
🕗 Sunday–Wednesday: 8 a.m.–2 p.m. and 4–10 p.m.
🕗 Thursday–Saturday: 8 a.m.–2 p.m. and 4 p.m.–midnight

Take a look at our photos from the preview, and yes—we’ll be back.

Coffee, cocktails, wine, beer, live music, open mic nights, wine tastings, and a little pre-show drama? Yes, north Raleigh, you may finally be getting a new place with a pulse.

The Green Room at Theatre Raleigh has expanded its hours, added its ABC permit, and is now serving craft cocktails alongside coffee, soft serve, snacks, and plenty of theater-adjacent energy.

And with Dear Evan Hansen running June 3–21, this might be the perfect place for a French 75 before the emotions start flying.

Big win for North Carolina cider. 🍎🥂

Cedar Grove’s Botanist and Barrel just earned two major honors from CIDERCRAFT Magazine, taking Platinum for Forager’s Delight and Silver for Sugar Hollow Daybreak in the Natural Cider category.

These are dry, native-fermented ciders made with Southern fruit, minimal intervention, natural bubbles, and a serious respect for what North Carolina agriculture can do when you let the fruit speak for itself.

Congrats to the Botanist & Barrel team for helping show that Southern cider can stand right alongside great wine—and still tell a story that tastes completely like home.

We got to try both of these to end , and have to say—well deserved!!!

Detroit-style pizza, crispy caramelized edges, cocktails with personality, a seriously good burger, and one skillet brownie that knows exactly what it’s doing. 🍕🍸

We went in curious and came out with a new appreciation for one of Michigan’s most famous food exports—right here in the Triangle.

Click below to see where we found it, what we ordered, and which pizza was the clear winner.

May was , and Jennifer is taking a look back at what worked, what didn’t, and where the whole thing maybe swerved into the ditch a little.

Check out our latest Substack story and let us know if you agree with her take. What could we be doing better as an industry, as writers, as wine drinkers, as bottle shops, and as the people trying to get North Carolina wine in front of more people?

And more importantly—how do we actually make that happen? 🍷

Today we closed out by staying a little closer to home 🍇

We took a drive out to Botanist and Barrel where we enjoyed a cider flight, a glass of the 2025 DeFi Muscadine-Malbec Pet-Nat which was surprisingly delicious 😋! We also tried the 2022 vs 2024 merlot. Wonderful as always!

Then we took the short drive to Rock of Ages Winery and did a tasting of the dry whites and reds. 🍷

Between the funky, natural wines at Botanist & Barrel and the easy, laid-back feel at Rock of Ages, it was one a great way to close out .

Good wine, no rush.

Cheers to NC Wine Month 🥂

🍷 As comes to a close, we're looking back on a special reception at the North Carolina Executive Mansion celebrating the people behind North Carolina wine.

Hosted during NC Wine Month, the event brought together winery owners, winemakers, industry leaders, media, tourism professionals, and content creators to spotlight an industry that continues to grow across the state.

Take a look inside the evening, and if you make it all the way to the end, you'll find a link to our more personal reflections from the event on our Substack. 😉

🍷 Cheers to another NC Wine Month and to the people helping North Carolina wine continue to grow.

Sometimes the best connections start with a simple email. 🍅🥂

Back in February, we heard from the team behind Gold Hen Bloody Mary ahead of Flavors of NC and made sure to stop by and try their product during the event. Months later, we finally had the chance to sit down with Shawn & Andrew in Wendell, hear their story, and enjoy their mix in a Bloody Mary crafted by Parkside Wendell.

If you’re looking for a flavorful Bloody Mary mix for your next brunch or gathering, check out our latest story and get to know the creative minds behind Gold Hen Bloody Mary Mix.
