Raton's new Kearny Film Studio and Education Center is slated to open next year in a historic brick school building. It’ll house workshops, offices and classrooms for the film industry, plus be the site for a proposed cutting edge extended reality film studio.

We have two mentorships available for students from Raton Public Schools that want to create their own films for Film Prize Junior 2023.

Film Prize Junior is a short film competition for middle and high school students across the state of New Mexico.

For this competition, educators and students work together to create a concept, write a story, and produce and edit a short film with help from team members and film mentors. Entrants that complete the competition will have their films showcased in the Film Prize Jr. film festival and qualify for prizes including equipment grants for the schools and scholarships for the students.

Registration and scripts are due December 5th and final films are due in March 2024.

We would like to start mentorships as soon as possible, so if you or any student you know would like to participate, email us at [email protected]

Great opportunity next weekend in Mora to bring oral history to life with the assistance of professional documentary filmmakers!

In this unique training, students will be learning how to use smart phone cameras to bring oral history to life on film and through documentaries facilitated by filmmakers Ramona Emerson and Kelly Byars. Students will learn about research, pre-production, interview techniques, lighting, and editing for filming in the field.

To participate in this training you must be a New Mexico resident and at least 12 years of age with a smart phone capable of recording video.

The Greater New Mexico Media Collective held our first conference this month and we identified these priorities to present to The New Mexico Rural Summit and the New Mexico State Legislature:

1. Increase Productions in Rural Areas of New Mexico
2. Media Education and Workforce Development in Rural Areas
3. Infrastructure in Rural Areas

These are huge goals, but we're determined to make them happen! We'll keep you informed as more progress emerges.

Here is a wonderful opportunity for those wanting to learn the basics of working in film. This two-day intensive is FREE and covers Assistant Camera, Acting for the Camera, Sound, & Grip.

A winning script will be chosen from a preceding screenwriting contest and then be filmed on a 2-camera shoot, supported by Panavision for Arri Alexa cameras, dolly & track from Maleko Grip & Rigging, and set lights & electric equipment from Cinelease, ABQ. The winning Short Film will be screened in your community as well as at George R.R. Martin’s Jean Cocteau Cinema in Santa Fe in 2022.

Our team is heading to Farmington next month to take part in the Greater New Mexico Media Collective conference!

The network's goal is to create a collaborative of creative clusters in rural communities across New Mexico for the purpose of economic development using collaboration techniques developed during the pandemic to connect these communities.
