Here's an old piece of art, based on a true event, showing a US mail carrier using a C**t Single-Action Army, probably in .45 C**t, to defend himself against a pack of wolves. Looks like it did the job. What do you think of single-action revolvers as woods guns? Have a favorite caliber?

Painting is by Newell Convers Wyeth one of America's greatest illustrators. It depicts Robert Henderson, widely reported to have been the source of the lead which led to discovery of gold in the Klondike in 1898. He was a mail carrier who crisscrossed the expanse of Alaska delivering mail to the towns and mining camps. Depicted here is a real event from Henderson's life, when he held off a pack of wolves with his revolver on a frozen Alaska lake. Evidently he was crossing a large frozen lake by dog team, when a pack of wolves gave chase. He stopped, freed his dogs so they could defend themselves and drew his revolver.
