A popular destination to view waterfalls in the western Upper Peninsula will be seeing some improvements.

The Ottawa National Forest began a major effort to repair and replace waterfall viewing platforms, stairways and trail structures along the Black River corridor this month.

Visitors should be aware there will be temporary closures at key waterfall access points at various times throughout the summer.

Experiencing smoke from Canadian wildfires is not a new experience for the Northwoods. Fires are part of the ecological landscape across much of North America.

But as climate change leads to shorter and drier winters across Canada, drought conditions are expected to worsen which then leads to worse wildfires seasons—of which Canada is already experiencing.

2023 and 2025 are the two worst wildfire seasons on record for the country and subsequently those years are among the worst air quality stretches for Wisconsin.

The Radio Television Digital News Association has been honoring outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. The RTDNA Edward R. Murrow Awards are considered among the most prestigious honors in broadcast and digital journalism and are presented to news organizations, not individuals.

A HUGE thank you to these gentlemen and all of their hard work that they put into it. The benefit concert was so successful that we discussed the possibility of doing it again next year.
