🍄 Shiitake says THANK YOU! 🐾❤️

Look at this sweet girl! After her scary broken leg and emergency surgery, Shiitake is recovering beautifully — and she’s eating SO much better! 🥹💗

She knows she’s been getting lots of love and attention lately, and she is incredibly grateful for every person who has supported her journey. ❤️

But Shiitake has a little reminder for everyone… there are some amazing dogs at Happy Faces Pet Ranch who have been waiting far too long for their turn in the spotlight. 🐶✨

They’d love a little extra attention, some shares, and maybe even the forever family they’ve been waiting for. ❤️

10 DOGS.
3 DAYS.
ONE LITTLE PUPPY WHO NEEDED US IMMEDIATELY. 💔🐾

Some weeks at rescue are hard.
And then there are weeks that completely knock the wind out of you.
Last week was one of those weeks.

In just three days, Happy Faces Pet Ranch took in 10 dogs.

Nine came from a family facing serious illness and no longer able to care for them. Nine dogs whose lives suddenly changed, and whose future was now in our hands.

And then Wednesday night, Shiitake arrived. 🍄

This tiny puppy had been found and brought to us, but something was very wrong.
She wouldn’t put any weight at all on her back leg. Thursday morning, we took her straight to our veterinarian. X-rays revealed a fracture involving the growth plate in her leg.

There was no crate rest to see if it would get better. She needed an orthopedic surgeon.

We immediately sent her X-rays to our orthopedic specialist, and thankfully, they were able to get her scheduled for surgery the very next day.

Friday, Shiitake went into surgery.

$2,000 later, this little girl has a chance to run and play again. ❤️

She’s recovering. She’s feeling better. She’s got that puppy spark back. 🥹🐶

THIS is rescue.

🐶It’s saying yes when the timing isn’t convenient.

🐶It’s saying yes when the kennel is already full.

🐶It’s saying yes when the vet bill wasn’t in the budget.

🐶It’s saying yes because a dog doesn’t understand that the rescue is overwhelmed, the bills are piling up, or that there were already nine other dogs who needed help that week.

She just knows she needed someone.
And we were there.

But here’s the part where we need you. ❤️

Taking in 10 dogs in three days comes with an enormous emotional AND financial impact.

Every one of those dogs needs veterinary care, vaccines, preventatives, food, supplies and a safe place to heal.

And Shiitake’s unexpected emergency surgery added another $2,000 to our veterinary expenses.

We will always do everything we can to help the dogs who come through our doors.

But we can’t do it alone.

🐾💙 Rescue friends are the BEST friends! 💙🐾

We’re excited to be joining our friends at Starfish Rescue today for this special event! ⭐️🐶

Starfish is an amazing rescue doing incredible work for dogs in need, and we LOVE having the opportunity to collaborate with other rescues. When we work together, we can reach more people, help more dogs, and hopefully find even more of these deserving pups their forever families! 🏡❤️

🐾 Rescue dogs can do some pretty incredible things.

After 9/11, specially trained dogs searched through the rubble, found survivors, located those who were lost, and brought comfort to the people who needed it most. We are so grateful for those heroes!

But rescue dogs don’t have to search through a disaster to make an incredible difference.

They can be your companion.
Your reason to smile.
Your walking buddy.
Your comfort on a hard day.
Your best friend. ❤️

HAPPY LABOR DAY! 🇺🇸

Some people have a 9 to 5…
Some people are Working for a Living…
And then there’s rescue, you can’t just say Take this Job and Shove it 😂

Because around here, Working for the Weekend isn’t really a thing. There are no clocking out, no long lunches, and definitely no “Sorry, I can’t—I’m off today.”

Rescue work never stops. 🐾❤️

There are dogs to feed, kennels to clean, laundry to do, medications to give, vet appointments to coordinate, emergencies to handle, and—of course—LOTS of tail wags that make every exhausting hour worth it.

So while this little gentleman looks like he’s ready to head into the office, the truth is…

🎶 He works hard for the…
🎶 Working 9 to 5
🎶 Taking Care of Business
🎶 …and probably wondering when his lunch break is. 😂

This Labor Day, we’re grateful for every person who works, volunteers, fosters, donates, transports, cleans, feeds, cuddles, and shows up for the animals who need us.

Because in rescue, there is no “off switch.” ❤️🐶
