Happy Thanksgiving, friends. For your listening pleasure retired "Breakfast with Beatles" host Dave Kane joins us at 11:30 a.m. today to present an annual special, "Alice's Restaurant." The iconic folk song "Alice's Restaurant Massacres" by Arlo Guthrie, a satirical, 18-minute story about a real-life incident involving illegal trash dumping that inadvertently helped Guthrie avoid the Vietnam War draft.

Dave Kane and Maureen Rich are special guests on "Connections with Evan Dawson" TODAY at 1 p.m. on WXXI News (FM 105.9) and on WXXI News YouTube channel.

Dave and Maureen have retired, and fans say their popular shows — "Breakfast with the Beatles" and "Road to Joy," respectively — are already missed. The way we access and listen to music is changing. It’s a reminder of how valuable it can be for communities to have people like Kano and Maureen. They join Evan to tell some stories and to make the case for why calling in to request a song — while more time-consuming — beats having the world’s catalog on your phone.

Next Friday, November 14th we hope you’ll join us at Abilene Bar and Lounge for a night of music, laughter, and love as we celebrate the retirements of Maureen Rich, host of “Road to Joy” + Dave Kane, host of “Breakfast with the Beatles.” Doors open at 4 p.m. Music starts at 5 p.m. and features The TugHill Band, with Maureen as its lead singer. So, come out next Friday for a joyful send-off for these two radio greats. (Please note: There is a $5 cover.)

Nominations for the 2026 Grammy Awards will be announced Friday, and they'll include a new category — Best Album Cover. NPR Morning Edition hosts Leila Fadel and A Martinez shared their favorite album covers from when they were kids. A's was Madonna's "Like a Virgin" cover and Lala's was any Mariah Carey album.
