Utah’s next green pharmacy license has been narrowed to five finalists, and today each of them will step in front of the licensing board and the Center for Medical Cannabis to make their case. This is their opportunity to explain why they should receive the state’s next pharmacy license and how they plan to serve Utah’s patient community.

The companies listed aren’t ranked — this is simply a look at who’s still in the running and the rural Utah cities they hope to operate in.

Our writer Benjamin Adams went full gonzo—straight down the ketamine rabbit hole to see what psychedelic therapy really feels like. No hype. No filters. Just the raw experience and what came after.

Read What Ketamine Showed Me in the latest issue of Salt Baked City, and see why this isn’t your average mental health story.

Huge thanks to Swahn Balanced Health Ketamine in Clinton for opening their doors—and our minds.

From Wheelchair to City Hall: Mayor Brett Hales’ Medical 🍃 Journey

With Utah’s 2025 general election ballots arriving in mailboxes, it feels like the perfect moment to reflect on how far the state’s medical-green program has come since voters first approved Prop 2 in 2018 — and how much work still lies ahead. Among the Utahns who continues to move that conversation forward is Murray Mayor Brett Hales.

Hales lives with multiple sclerosis, a condition that once confined him to a wheelchair. Through determination, rehabilitation, and the careful use of medical herb, he found new strength and stability. Today, he walks the halls of Murray City Hall, leading his community while continuing to share what he’s learned about patient access and responsible policy.

He’s also a familiar face at — the local spot where his own journey with medical herb continues. His story embodies resilience, compassion, and the evolving understanding of how this plant continues to change lives across Utah. If you see the mayor in line at The Forest, be sure to say hi — he’s always up for a good conversation about community, progress, and the power of the plant 🌿

We’re Picking Up the Slack

Welcome to Salt Baked City, a new Utah-based magazine devoted to reporting on medical Cannabis news and events that local media doesn’t. We aim to pick up the slack so these issues receive the coverage they deserve.

Since the Farm Act took effect in late 2018, we’ve seen a h**p-farming boom in Utah. Now that medical Cannabis, h**p and CBD have truly made an entrance, the Salt Lake scene is greener than ever.

Salt Baked City follows in the footsteps of University of Utah graduate and founder of High Times magazine, Tom Focade, who has close connections with the Utah Free Press. As such, what you’ll hear from us will be far outside the Beehive mainstream.

Our pages will feature local Cannabis news, innovator spotlights. and emerging ideas in the growing industry that impact our community. You’ll also read about unique work opportunities alongside fun tips, and interviews with leading experts.
