It was truly amazing speaking with these two last night. Ultraviolet Backdrops is incredibly intuitive, genuine and I left this conversation feeling inspired to be the creator I am meant to be. Did you know a company that does backdrops could do that? Well that’s just it - is more than a backdrop company. Their impact on the art world extends past their backdrops and what they do to cultivate a space for creative individuals is beyond anything I could imagine! 🌿

The snow glitters as I walk from the car to the house — carrying a heavy dessert, wafting sweetly from under its cover. My feet click on the cobblestone in union to the icicles that drip, my bright red dress a large dot on the small marshmallow world around me.

The world is quiet and the air still. A peaceful splendor before the chaos that will no doubt ensue inside.

The wind chills and snow blows and I let myself into the house where laughter reigns and piano music plays as the dinner is made.

A nativity set sits on the mantle, above the roaring fire, glowing from within and I am reminded of the real reason of this day. That no matter how dark it may get, there’s always a bright light that breaks through.

A light filled with joy and smiles and surrounded by hope.

Meet Camille, owner of . From a young age, she always had some sort of drawing utensil in her hand. As an artistic, right-brained person, her visual and artistic side led her towards combining the two to create drawings, paintings, photographs, and other varieties of visual images.

Ambrose & Elm had the honor of talking to Camille about her art, shop, and what inspires her. Check out her interview below:

What has been your favorite photo to paint?

My painting of Prosser Lake. The painting of the lake was created from a photograph that I took of the lake in the fall several years ago. One of the more prominent and memorable features of the lake is that it sits walking distance from the back door of my grandparent’s home in Truckee, California.

Did you take any classes to learn how to do art or has it come naturally?

Most of my art ability has come naturally to me. I believe it has been handed down to me from my grandpa who has always had a natural ability and gift of sketching and painting art. Every time my grandpa would come to visit, he would take time to show and teach me a technique to sketching or painting that was new to me. As a homeschool kid, I was able to doodle and draw throughout the day while completing schoolwork or while my mom read to me. After graduating, I continued my art by enrolling in several college art courses covering both sketching and painting in various mediums.

What made you open up a shop?

After taking the art course in college, I began to create larger pieces of art in a variety of mediums and styles. In doing so, I began to be approached by family and friends to create personalized custom paintings of their pets, houses, special locations, sceneries, and various other items.

This led my family and others to encourage me that I would be able to sell my paintings and to start a shop. I had never planned on selling art, but have loved the adventure of being able to create and do what I love and at the same time, share my art with others which in turn, I hope, in some small way will brighten up their home and lives.

Emily in Paris has been the latest must-watch show of the season. Starring the lovely , the show is about a young woman named Emily Cooper from Chicago who is hired to "provide an American perspective at a marketing firm in Paris." Which is, of course, a dream for many people. With the drama, the fun outfits, and the charm of Paris, it's obvious why Emily in Paris has become a hit.

We were able to interview the head makeup artist for the show, and get a little insight into her art and makeup in general.

AE: When working on Lily Collins' makeup, what types of inspirations, if any, did you draw from? What was the deciding factor for the choices in makeup from the start of the series to the end?

Payen: I wanted the makeup light, fresh, but still with a touch of color on the lips to give it some character. We had some more dramatic eyes or lips for the special events. It became the signature of Emily's make-up.

AE: What made you want to be a makeup artist and how did you get into the industry?

Payen: Ohhh long story… but basicaly since I was a kid, I always wanted to work in the cinema industry without really knowing what to do. But I always wanted to be behind the camera. I started working on movies before being a makeup artist. That’s where I knew where I belonged. Then life and opportunities made their way and 20 years after here I am!

AE: If you are running late to work, what makeup staples do you think is most important to throw on? (i.e. a red lip, eyebrows, mascara, foundation, etc.)

Payen: My five minute make up routine if I’m running late at work would be: Hydrate my skin and lips, add a tiny bit of concealer under the eye and a lot of mascara!

AE: What's your favorite makeup look you did for the show?

Definitely the opera scene. I’m in love with this one, I find it so chic!
