Over the past year and 3 months, I have put an incredible amount of work into turning around the reputation of The SunTrapp, both within the city and the LGBTQ+ Community. I have striven to ensure that this bar is a safe place for the community to come and be themselves, a safe & fair environment for my employees, and a haven for all. This has included ensuring that I pay my employees well over minimum wage and above the industry averages, offering health insurance in the form of a QSHERA to eligible full-time employees, and staffing security adequately to keep our space safe in an ever-changing political climate – including collaboration and working with the SLC Chief of Police.

I only became aware of the employees’ effort to unionize this morning but did not receive any information about their requests for change until I was sent a link to their new Instagram page, but I am committed to continuing the work that I have done to make The SunTrapp safe, fair, and enjoyable. I plan to work with these individuals to identify the pain points in the running of the bar and the offering of a q***r space, and to ensure that the growth The SunTrapp has seen over the past year continues. It has always been my top priority to keep this space as safe as possible, and that will continue to be my top priority – regardless of how the union efforts go.
