Two hundred and twenty-seven Cottonwood Heights residents completed Utah State University’s well-being survey. Ninety-six percent of those 227 residents were full-time residents with only 3% being part-time residents. Twenty-two percent of those 96 residents reported living in the city for under five years.

Based on data collected from the Utah Wellbeing Project, Cottonwood Heights residents report a high sense of well-being in comparison to 35 other Utah cities.

The Brighton football team spent a couple hours washing the walls and tables of the lunchroom, painting dinosaur footprints outside from the lunchroom to the playground, painting animals on the blacktop where students line up to enter the school, and helping a teacher with building shelves, desks and storage drawers for her classroom.

During the state playoffs, Brighton High football players put aside a practice to perform service work at East Midvale Elementary in a different form of team bonding and in return, got a lesson of appreciation.

Cottonwood Heights Parks & Recreation Service Area (CHPRSA) Executive Director Ben Hill presented the details of a proposed tax increase to the Cottonwood Heights City Council on Nov. 15. The 2023 estimated tax increase on a market value house of $678,500 will be $61.57. There will be a public hearing on this proposed tax increase on Dec. 14 at 6 p.m.

Residents will see a tax increase to their property taxes next year with a proposed increase from the Cottonwood Heights Parks & Recreation Service Area.

The City of Cottonwood Heights proposes numerous transportation projects each year in hopes of receiving potential funding. In prior years, the city’s proposals for a HAWK crosswalk and the Bengal Boulevard roundabout were approved for funding.

The State of Utah requires all municipalities to have a general plan document outlining plans related to elements of transportation, water use, and moderate-income housing, at the very least. The Cottonwood Heights General Plan will also include plans related to land use, sustainability, and parks, trails, and open space.

Cottonwood Heights officials are tasked with planning for double the housing and population in the General Plan update.
