I know emotions are running hot RN. I hope in these insane times we can all truly embrace the core tenets of dance music culture, including open minds, love, & tolerance. It’s okay to despise & totally disagree with someone. It’s never okay to inflict physical violence on another because you hate what they say.
It’s tragic to see such violence in our country on both sides of the political aisle. It scares me that someone could be killed for speaking about their political beliefs, & then see some people celebrate that violence & death. It’s wrong, even if we think the person speaking is crazy & hated.
If we fail to see the serious tragedy in all violence—particularly those murdered for speaking their minds—then we will soon see all types of speech, even music & dance, limited. Open & respectful dialogue is the only way forward. Celebrating, joking about, & accepting the political assassination of another human being is just not okay. That goes for all people killed due to their beliefs.
No matter what your political ideals are, we must come together on this common value, or we will all one day wish we had. I’m not looking to fight with anyone. I don’t think I have some special opinion. I just can’t stand to see people being torn apart over this. I pray that we can agree that what happened yesterday is a tragedy that must never happen again. Our country needs to have this shared value, or we will become a country where we used to be free.
To my friends who are hurt, my heart breaks for your pain. I feel it. To the very few of my friends who have celebrated death and violence, do better. To everyone, join me in decrying violence against someone for speaking out… even if we hate what they say, especially if we hate what they say.
