Today, June 4th, marks the beginning of Naropa University's Summer Writing Program. The 50th year folks young and old gather in Boulder, Colorado to immerse in poetry and poetics, the sacred and the profane, rituals and practices fed by the ages. While I am attending other matters of the heart, I hold space for all those in attendance this year, and for all who've passed through, living or dead, in the previous 49. A constellation that continues to unfold, surprise, and breathe. Gorgeous, really.

"The Drunken Boat," a poem that many believe is Rimbaud's best. (That's saying a lot.) Making his way to Paris from the French countryside, Rimbaud impressed Verlaine with this piece, a poet who was at the center of the Parnassians. The Parnassians found Rimbaud's poetry interesting enough, but fell out of love with the boy when, high on absinthe, he soiled their bedsheets and called s**t on their own poetry. He is said to have deep blue eyes.
