West Jordan resident Doral Vance didn’t used to worry about the total on his grocery receipt. But with prices up and 3 teens?.

About half of all U.S. adults told a poll that grocery costs are a major stressor in their lives. In Utah, a North Salt Lake pantry has seen demand nearly double in the last year, and others in the state are looking for ways to shave costs.

The initial power outage last week, caused by the Monroe Canyon fire, lasted for 30 hours. Garkane Energy Cooperative Incorporated will start more permanent repairs to power lines Aug. 6.

The concern is greatest for areas of the state where a high percentage of students do not have the MMR vaccine, like the southwest corner of Utah.

NASA calls them the “fire-breathing dragon of clouds,” and they don’t mess around. A pyrocumulonimbus cloud was responsible for a fire tornado that recently tore through an eastern Utah neighborhood with wind speeds estimated at 122mph.

The Monroe Canyon fire has burned 75 square miles, and the wind-whipped fire along the Grand Canyon has become a "megafire." Both are burning so hot that they are spurring the formation of "fire clouds."
