A choir from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints performed during the America Days celebration at Sukhbaatar Square in Ulaanbaatar on June 6, joining events organized by the U.S. Embassy in Mongolia and the American Chamber of Commerce in Mongolia. The celebration marked the upcoming 250th anniversary of United States independence on July 4 and highlighted the longstanding friendship between Mongolia and the United States through cultural exhibits, educational opportunities, American businesses, and traditional food.

Church members spent several weeks preparing for the performance, with individual ward choirs rehearsing separately before joining for combined practices under the direction of Sister Unurjargal. During the event, the choir performed “America the Beautiful” and the Mongolian song “Eternal Mongolia.” In a message shared for the occasion, the U.S. Embassy in Mongolia emphasized the importance of international partnerships and mutual respect. Choir member Khongorzul said participating in the event was a privilege and brought back memories of singing in a church choir 15 years earlier.

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Korean and U.S. military representatives, civic leaders, historians, and veterans gathered in Seoul on May 24 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Gapyeong, often known as the “Miracle of Gapyeong.” The devotional honored the faith, sacrifice, and legacy of those who fought in the pivotal 1951 Korean War battle. Among those attending were family members of Lt. Col. Raymond B. Dalley, commander of the U.S. Army’s 213th Field Artillery Battalion, and Korean War veteran Frank Sweeting, 95, who returned to Korea for the first time in 75 years. Speakers emphasized the enduring bonds between Korea and the United States and paid tribute to those who helped preserve freedom on the Korean Peninsula.

During the devotional, descendants of veterans, historians, and Church leaders reflected on accounts of faith and divine guidance associated with the battle. Sweeting recalled that despite overwhelming enemy forces, his battalion suffered no fatalities, an outcome many participants described as miraculous. Speakers highlighted Lt. Col. Dalley’s leadership, prayer, and concern for his soldiers, while emphasizing themes of faith, unity, sacrifice, and service. Elder Woo-Chul Lee concluded the event by encouraging attendees to seek God’s guidance in their own lives, and participants expressed gratitude for the veterans whose sacrifices helped make modern Korea’s prosperity possible.

“God can use your small stone for great victories” reminds us that the Lord often works through simple, humble efforts. David did not overcome Goliath because of his size, experience, or armor. He prevailed because he trusted God. In the same way, our “small stones” may be a sincere prayer, a testimony shared with a friend, a quiet act of service, daily scripture study, or a faithful decision to keep a covenant. What seems small in our eyes can become powerful when placed in the Savior’s hands.

As disciples of Jesus Christ, we know that the Lord can magnify our efforts and accomplish His purposes through ordinary people who exercise faith in Him. When challenges seem overwhelming, David’s example reminds us to focus less on the size of the giant and more on the power of God. The Savior does not expect us to overcome every obstacle by our own strength. Rather, He invites us to trust Him, use the gifts and opportunities He has given us, and move forward with faith. Through His grace, even our smallest acts of obedience can lead to victories far greater than we could achieve alone.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is strengthening sustainability initiatives across Mexico through solar energy, water conservation, reforestation and environmentally friendly infrastructure projects. More than 50 meetinghouses now have rooftop solar systems that are expected to reduce electricity consumption by nearly 90% at each site. The recent installation of about 3,100 solar panels is projected to prevent approximately 1,240 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually while reducing demand on local power grids.

The Church is also promoting low-water landscaping, rainwater management and reforestation programs to improve environmental stewardship. At the Mexico Missionary Training Center in Mexico City, nearly 200 trees have been planted during the past five years, while solar collectors now heat about 80% of the water used in missionary residences. The facility also operates a water treatment plant and rainwater harvesting system that support long-term water conservation efforts. According to Church operations and maintenance manager Alberto de Hoyos, the projects reflect a commitment to responsible resource use, environmental care and preserving the planet for future generations.

In a world that often measures worth by appearance, status, talent, or achievement, the Lord teaches a different standard. When Samuel was sent to anoint a new king for Israel, he naturally looked at Jesse's older sons and assumed that one of them must be the Lord's chosen servant. But the Lord corrected him with a powerful truth: "The Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart" (1 Samuel 16:7).

David was not the obvious choice. He was the youngest son, tending sheep while his brothers stood before Samuel. Yet the Lord saw something others could not see. He saw faith, humility, courage, and a willing heart. While others judged by outward appearance, God looked deeper.

This principle remains true today. We often compare ourselves to others and wonder if we are good enough, talented enough, or important enough to serve the Lord. We may feel overlooked or inadequate, much like David may have felt. But the Lord is not looking for perfection in appearance or position. He is looking for a willing heart.

The story of Saul also reminds us that outward qualities alone are not enough. Saul was tall, handsome, and initially humble, but over time pride and disobedience led him away from the Lord. His experience teaches that what matters most is not how we begin but whether we continue to trust and obey God.

As disciples of Jesus Christ, we can strive to see others as the Savior sees them. Rather than judging based on appearances, backgrounds, or first impressions, we can look for goodness, potential, and divine worth. Every person is a child of God with a heart known perfectly by Him.

When we allow Jesus Christ to be our King, He changes our hearts and helps us become who He knows we can be. He sees beyond our weaknesses, insecurities, and labels. He sees our faith, our desires, and our potential. And because He looks on the heart, there is hope for every one of us.
