The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Welfare and Self-Reliance Services Family Services division will hold an online po*******hy treatment group for male members in Japan beginning in early October. The 10-week program will meet via Zoom every Saturday for 90-minute sessions, led by counselor Yayoi Iwanami and program specialist Makoto Ueno. Participants must be male members of the Church who have a strong personal commitment to overcoming po*******hy use and a bishop’s recommendation to join.

Church leaders and members gathered Saturday in Colorado Springs to break ground on a new temple for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Elder Karl D. Hirst of the Church’s United States Central Area Presidency presided over the ceremony and offered a dedicatory prayer over the site. The temple will be the fourth in Colorado, joining existing temples in Denver, Fort Collins and Grand Junction.

An EF3 tornado tore through Wisconsin’s Fox Valley on July 27, damaging homes, downing power lines and leaving about 20,000 households without electricity. In the aftermath, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints worked alongside fellow Christians, including a local Pentecostal church, Catholic Charities and St. Joseph’s Food Pantry, to support residents with food, lodging and cleanup assistance. The interfaith response brought together churches and community organizations as recovery efforts continued across the affected areas.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donated a new 11-classroom school block, 200 student desks, 24 latrines, and four water tanks to GS Gora School in Rwanda’s Rubavu District during a handover ceremony on August 25. Local and church leaders, including Rwanda Kigali Mission President John Koranteng and Rubavu Vice Mayor Manishimwe Pacifique, praised the gift for giving students proper seating and better sanitation. Koranteng said the donation, funded by Church members’ offerings worldwide, reflects the commandment to love and care for one’s neighbors.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teamed up with Water for Good to build a solar-powered pump station, a large water tank, and eight water points now serving about 2,686 people in Tanzania’s Shinyanga District. Government leaders celebrated the project on August 20 during the national Uhuru Torch Race, honoring Church and Water for Good representatives for their support. Today, we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the families, friends and communities whose lives were forever changed. We remember the courage of first responders, the compassion of strangers and the countless acts of service that followed in the midst of unimaginable grief. Among those who died were five members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, whom we remember together with every victim of that tragic day. Twenty-five years later, the pain of September 11 remains a solemn reminder of the value of every human life and the importance of compassion, unity and peace. May we honor those who were lost by remembering them with dignity, supporting those who continue to carry their absence and choosing kindness toward one another.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints mobilized volunteers across Luzon to assist communities affected by severe southwest monsoon flooding, which impacted an estimated 8.1 million people across seven regions. Church members prepared thousands of relief packs, helped rescue stranded residents and opened meetinghouses as evacuation centers in areas including Pangasinan, Tarlac, Quezon City, Rizal and Pampanga. The Church also coordinated with local governments, the Philippine Red Cross and other organizations to provide food, clothing, toiletries and other essential supplies to displaced families.
