Stew Tribe has the Midas touch. More specifically, his work attracts gold-level accolades — like multiple gold Telly Awards (for the Utah Jazz’s 2024-25 season kickoff anthem, “Mountain Basketball”) and a Ciclope Awards Gold Lion (for his writing in Uber Eats’ “Football is for Food” campaign). Tribe’s guiding belief is clear: There has been a loss of truly great storytelling in advertising, and One of The Fold is on a mission to bring it back as an end-to-end creative advertising studio.

What do you get when you mix world-class skiing, business acumen and a penchant for the latest technology? The answer is Skis on the Run.

When Skis on the Run first opened in 2002, ski equipment rentals were still a new and unique concept in the United States. However, proximity to the slopes of Park City ski resorts and the company’s white-glove model of delivering the gear straight to customers’ rooms created a successful business.

“What validates our approach is that our highest customer base is repeat. The business model is working.”

Ask anyone who grew up in Utah what day of the week their Winder Dairy deliveries were made and decades later, many will still remember — because for several generations, Winder was Utah’s milkman.

Now, the 145-year-old dairy business is balancing nostalgia and modernization as it expands from eight products back toward its former glory.

Peter Turner has a reputation in ski circles as a mad scientist — an outside-the-box engineer with a genius for crafting unusual shapes using unorthodox materials to invent skis that generate fanatical loyalty.

But spend an afternoon with Turner at the DPS SKIS factory he designed in the Granary District of Salt Lake City, and it quickly becomes apparent that Turner is not a mad scientist at all. He is a genial visionary who delights in putting smiles on the faces of skiers.

Rather than selling to private equity, Central States Manufacturing sold the business to its employees. At the time of my reporting, the company boasted 47 millionaires — not just in the C-suite, but all the way down to drivers and machinists. That struck me as business done right.

If all of us owned equity in our companies that were in proportion to what we contribute to their value, then our economy would benefit all of us. Not just the ones at the top.

And that’s a future of capitalism worth working toward.

Walk the aisles of your local grocery store and you’ll probably notice something strange: protein is in everything these days. Popcorn, 10 grams! Pancakes, 30! Ice cream? Creamy, delicious and nutritious!

What’s behind the trend? Is this a genuine shift toward healthy living or just clever marketing? And which Utah companies are making the tastiest contributions?
